With only 16pts separating top and bottom (26 this time last year) and bottom clubs winning today, has the gap got closer, are the top teams worse or is the quality greater and spread more evenly between the clubs?

For the past two seasons it has seemed a very mediocre league.

Why do you think that is, especially with some of the world's top players playing here?

It seems to be returning to the great days of old, where it was so tight anyone in theory could lift the title. Like the last time Vile did in 1982. They finished 7th the season before and 11th the season after.

It needs to though. Another 20 years of the league being dominated by a handful of clubs could literally see the game die.

Yes it is the tightest table in years.

An example:

The points this year between the Bottom club (tonight) and the 7th Club is only 8 points. That's incredible.

Last year at this stage - 15 games - that gap was 14 points.

To haul yourselves away from the relegation zone should therefor be easier this year, but at the same time, if you are 7th you could very well be in the relegation zone after a few bad results.

Another thing that makes this season different is the Top Four's problems.
Chelsea, behind the scenes shenanigans, "mysterious" illnesses to key players.
Man Utd more phantom injuries to Rooney and now Gerrard has caught it.
Best time of the year for a midseason break :D
Man City are just built for trouble and people (journos) are now saying the unheard of - that Wenger is going mad.

This stumbling by the big boys is certainly giving hope to the upstarts like Spurs.

It's tight at the top as well as the bottom, and my opinion is that it's the millionaire clubs stumbling because of millionaire players.

It's making me wonder-will the points total to avoid relegation be higher this season then normal?

Record goal-fest this weekend, the prem is getting better and better with the likes of Albion Blackpool and even Bolton playing good attacking football. **thumbup

Almost certainly - and that isn't a good thing for us.
