Qatar It's not a football nation It's not the best of legislative countries. But how about the average temperature in June/July being over 40C. How can you play football in those conditions. And how can the fans tolerate it? FIFA is a sham. What a joke. They will slowly kill off international football. Everything this body does is a sham. Come on Premier League defy them and bring in goal line technology. Come on the British press, get your investigative teeth well and truly into them. |

All the matches are being played indoors to combat the temperatures... How that equates to the best footballing bid I dont know |

Qatar is a stupid place to put the world cup. Human rights abuses, Sharia law, tiny population, small interest in football (compared to other places) etc. Then add in the temperatures and lack of places to stay - its a complete disgrace. Im sure the FIFA members pockets are lined now though.... |

It will be moved from the summer (50C) to the winter, just a rumour at the moment apparently. |

Whenever it's played, the heat will be punishing. I've spent a while in that part of the world, and it's no place to hold the World Cup. Even the UAE isn't ready for it. |

I think that everyone is also forgetting that Qatar will automatically qualify for that WC aswell. That means they have 12 years to convince some failed Brazilians to gain dual nationality or whatever it is otherwise they will be in for some humiliating times on the pitch. |

The air con will apparently be solar powered and the stadiums (upper tiers) will be disassembled after the World Cup and donated to countries with less developed sports infrastructure, apparently. |

How does a country with a population of just 840,296 get to hold the World Cup if there's no corruption involved? Think about it, the attendance for just half the group games if it was held in England could easily add up to more than the entire population of Qatar (16 games with Average attendance of 52,519) I agree it's time to move on from a hidebound organisation that is holding football back in favour of keeping a few already well fed snouts buried deep in the trough. FIFA would fall apart if England, Spain, Portugal, Holland & Belgium all withdrew, and the rest of Europe would soon follow. It'd be a pretty hollow organisation without the major leagues of Europe. |

Former FA executive director David Davies said of England's loss in the World Cup bid."The key thing is looking ahead," he said, adding it was vital to find out what went wrong so "lessons could be learned ."Lesson 1: Become completely insignificant in international football Lesson 2: Acquire vast oil fields Lesson 3: Mass industralise the nation Lesson 4: Bankrupt the country to obtain over 16800 nuclear weapons Lesson 5: Rename country "Russia" |

If that is true then it will be another catalyst for the death of international football. I can't see the European Big 14 clubs (or whatever they are known as) tolerating no domestic league and champions league. Also what will the gay footballers and Jewish footballers do? Currently the gays are illegal in Qatar and Jews are not allowed in. Let's hope Israel qualify for starters. |

I was just thinking that. It'd be great if a few openly gay footballers were in the teams that qualify, and Israel, obviously. |

Qatar will hold their WC matches at night (late evening).Ideal for the USA. But it's the temperatures outside like. For the 21 hours a day when you ain't in a stadium and the 24 hours a day when your team ain't playing - that's goin to be a bummer. It's a muslim country and as such it's laws have to be respected. That will affect the Fan Fests in squares with giant screens and NO alcohol. You can drink in designated places, like hotels ( if you can afford them) but not outside. The picking of two world cup venues in one go makes sense now. The bugggars who picked them will be long gone by 2022. Whatever "bribes" or kickbacks may have transpired will be lost in the 12 years between. Perhaps these guys with their snouts in the kickback trough thought it better to have 2 paydays, just in case they weren't around in 4 years time to get the second bite. |
