When we have a bit of snow many football games are called off due to Health & Safety. Are we [football fans] soft or can't be trusted. Over this weekend the Rugby Union matches have gone ahead. Today Wasps have announced their game is on BUT have advised fans NOT to travel It's the fans choice however. Over this weekend the World Darts has gone ahead at Alexandra Palace. The fans have been told to leave the cars well away and climb the hill up to Alexandra Palace with great care. Again it's the fans choice. Meanwhile a feew miles away the Chelsea game has been called offdue to H&S reasons. Why don't the authorities trust football fans to negotiate the snow and ice? |

I think it might be the compensation culture we have today. I have to agree though it is strange that rugby goes ahead and football doesn't I meen they would both suffer the same danger for fans. Maybe the police wanted to get some Xmas shopping in. :D |

Football games being called off because of snow.............at the same time as there are increased calls for the legalisation of gay marriage. I'm sure the two are linked. |

A Gentler World maybe ? Though I doubt you would see that Lord. :D On Topic: A darts tournament with 2.500 visitors, is as much relevant to a football match as is a knitting contest in the old Town Hall. It is less to do with the compensation culture we have ( as the doc says) than witth the traffic management capabilities we have. The lesser the venue capacity (cars or footfall - as they call it now) the less is the problem for accidents, disruption and claims. Why people expect hundreds of extra police to be drafted to football matches and away from their normal jobs, because of traffic management, caused by the weather, confuses me. Will you pay your extra Council Tax for overtime payments to the police for helping Smallsborough v Even Smallsboro get played? At any of the normal 48 League matches taking place, an adequate deployment of police would be made for that wekend. Bad weather means a re-deployment. I think Tiddliewinks and Darts may escape, but the popularity of footie is such that it would absorb too many bobbies away from other meaningful sporting activities, that are visited by less traffic. (Cars and footfall as they now say :D ) Don't let's blame all the time, let's recognise what resources we have. And praise them friend, for the work that they do. **thumbup |

well i managed to get down to west brom yesterday on a xmas pressie run and we drove past the hawthorns, there is no way that game could have been played. the streets around the ground were covered in snow and ice. the traffic situation was bad, with a game on it would have been terrible. it was a sensible decision to cancel and i assume the blues decision was the same. not everyone lives within a 10 minute walk of football grounds.i dont think the weekend before xmas should have any fixtures anyway, usually the attendance figures drop due to xmas shopping etc, and it would give the players a break. |
