I think it shows how much Mcleish has developed the squad, by the fact that Tuesday's game against Newcastle doesnt bother me, the fact we have a congested game week.

Last season we were continually playing the same XI week in, week out, and sometimes we looked hugely fatigued.

I think it speaks volumes by the fact that we got 3 points today, and yet even though we have another fixture in 3 days, we still have some very fresh faces, in the shape of Murphy,Davies,Hleb,Fahey,Bowyer,Parnaby,Beausejour,Phillips,Derbyshire,Mutch.. And the players who will still have plenty in their tank after only partly featuring today, ie Jerome and Martins.

Im not saying change the whole XI for tuesdays game, but at least we can afford to rotate the team, rather than risking injury.

It said it all when we beat West Ham over the space of 120 minutes, and then 3 days later we changed the team massively, and completely played Coventry off the park.

Players get praised when they do something right, but I dont think Mcleish gets praised enough. I think he deserves a huge pat on the back for the way he has filtered out alot of the deadwood, and without spending too much, he has created a squad of his own, which is proving that they can handle the workload of two cup competitions simultaneously, as well as a hugely important league run.

I dont want to get carried away after back-to-back wins.. But the fact that we are above the filth, with 2 games in hand, and we have a cup final in 2 weeks? I think people should start looking up again rather than being negative.

This season could still turn out to be an even better one than last ;)

Excellent post but you have missed one major positive note.

McLeish has achieved all this on a pittance compared with other clubs in the premier league. This is not to say that the board have not backed him they have within certain limits.

McLeish has also been let down. Hleb is on a fortune but he hasnt yet repaid Birmingham for giving him the opportunity to play premier league football.

The only thing I disagree with McLeish on is the lack of playing time he has given Phillips especially after seeing him in recent weeks. Apart from this he has done a sterling job at progressing Birmingham City.

Ive said it once Ill say it again Birmingham City have their man in McLeish.

Agree with everything you said mate, apart from the point about Phillips.

When we are creating chances but repeatedly not scoring/finishing them (Which usually happens against the poorer teams) then that is when we need Super Kev to do his thing in and around and the box to latch onto the chances.

When he plays and we dont make the chances in the final third, then he looks largely un-effective.

Impact subs for us IMO will work better with players who are going to run at defences and liven the crowd up abit, ie Martins or Jerome, whichever one starts on the bench.

IMO Zigic is irreplacable to the team, because he has that ability to go a whole game without having one half chance, and then scoring from nowhere.. He also has tha knock-down factor to help assist the players around him.
