Mark Halsey...; Absolutely awful today!

I am a huge fan of Mark Halsey. Definitely one of my favourite referees in the Prem and I have huge respect for him after everything he has been through.

BUT, he was dire today. Absolutely terrible performance - missed a hell of a lot (penalties, pushing, elbow in the face on Jiranek by Carew...), used the advantage rule very strangely (ie often not signalling advantage until way after the incidents) and, most riling of all, falling for constant head injuries by the Stoke players, conveniently when we were on the ball and on the attack. The most galling thing about one of those incidents was when the little turd Walters kicked it right in to the corner after we had posession - should have booked him for unsporting behaviour instantly.

In the end it was by far the most satisfying result of the season for me. Stoke are so anti-football and rough as a team that I am delighted we did them.

Just got home from the game and absolutely have to agree. Don't like to knock referees as they have a difficult job to do. Halsey usually get it right. But today, awful!

Wembley tickets......sorted!!!!!!!!!

I regard Halsey as one of the Premier League's best referees.
But he seemed to use the advantage rule way to often today and was easily conned.
Still admire him though.
So glad we got the three points!!

Agree with you all. He certainly had a pretty bad day in the office today; Stoke always play the ref. Made the win even sweeter as it seemed that everything was against us going into those last few minutes!

Always liked Mark Halsey but had a shocker today imo.

How, when Zigic scored with 30 seconds to go of the 3 mins stoppage time did he end up playing nearly 2 mins on top i haven't a clue.

Agree, totally consistently bad today. Not helped by Stoke players trying to con him at every opportunity. That's a Tony Pulis team for you.

Like many others, I'd rate him as one of the best usually! But today he was awful... Got pretty much everything wrong! Oh well 3 points!

A top man, great ref, and an inspiration to us all.

Nothing short of a legend and I hope he gets the FA cup final.

Who cares.

I'm going to guess at the people who have commented on the thread, at least. Probably more.

I thought he had a shocker today but it's been a while since I thought anything good of the refs in this sweet game of ours...

Well I don't.

Blues won, I haven't seen the game. And my other comments on Mark Halsey can't be ignored.

Do I respect him? Of course I do... my dad had the same illness and fought it, so of course.

Is it good to see him reffing after it all? It is yeah to be perfectly honest.

Did he have a good game today? No he had a mare, but all refs do, Pulis and Stoke dont help things with their thuggish and cheating ways basically, plus all the rants Pulis had earlier in the season about refs and decisions going against them.

Made the three points, all the more sweeter.

That, and knowing that those horrid fans who I just cannot stand after living in Stoke for a year and a bit, had to go back to the dump that is Stoke, after a last minute goal!

Should'nt a deliberate handball (Carew) be followed by a yellow card?

He is past it. The linesman on the Kop side was blind too!

I was so pleased to see this him Ref again, but he did have a bad day today, I hate watching games against Stoke, they are so frustrating and just play dire football, but he made it 10 times worse today, just thought he had a vendetta against us.
One of the worse displays by a ref I have seen.
Respect him for his personal life, not saying this is the reason, but the illness he had does cast a shadow over your life and some days you can't help it not effect your performance in your profesional life even if you like to think it dosn't.

Deliberate hand ball isn't automatically a yellow.
