Thought he played really well today. I know Sheffield Wednesday weren't great, but every time he plays in the centre he plays well. He's good at switching the play and holding the ball, similar to how Ferguson plays. It's ridiculous how he's scapegoated by most blues fans, who can't seem to understand that he's spent the last 2 seasons being played out of position on the wing. Keep it up keith, future replacement for ferguson IMO :blues:

I agree, a contender for man of the match, must of made over 100 passes today and barely gave it away, his pass through the eye of a needle to Bowyer in the first half was world class.

I don't think people have been slating Fahey as such, but they have been slating Fahey out on the left wing specifically, where, lets face it, he has rarely contributed anything and is usually pretty anonymous.

As you say not his position, but when he had that long spell out on the left wing he was definitely one of the weak links in the team.

But that's not his fault. He's not exactly going to turn around and tell mcleish that actually it would be better if mcfadden or beausejour play is he. If you put lampard or gerrard at left mid they wouldn't have the same impact would they.

I guess it just irritates me that because he was played out of position for so long, people tend to assume that he isn't good enough for blues, even though every time he has played in the centre he has looks composed and played well (eg stoke away, villa home and today), yet never seems to get the credit he deserves.

The problem is AMC favouring Fahey out of position on the left wing instead of Beausejour, it rings alarm bells for me every time and every time the case is proven against Keith Fahey in that position.

The lad doesn't need that kind of exposure at Blues but as he must, he puts his shift in however poorly for the manager!

no, its not his fault at all, but he has no place in the team if he is out on the wing.
he seems to be ok in the middle.
not seen enough yet to get too excited though.

So backwards sidewards, backwards sidewards and only the direction you're facing isn't a problem. Also, his mistakes were directly responsible for at least three of their most dangerous attacks today. You only have to see the rest of the players 'screaming' (polite word) at him to know he struggels at this level. I happen to think he is an ok Championship player and I don't blame him personally for being out of his depth, but please don't tell me he can cope at Premier league level?

He is a Mr Reliable which every squad needs. Doesnt set the pitch alight but he has his moments and you know every time he plays he is going to do a job for you.

Had a good game today, excellent squad player and well worth his contract extension imo.

Really?

Ridgewell's been playing out of position for most of last season and most of this. He's a centre back, and he's been asked to play as a left back, and he's done so well he's now first choice for that position.

If it was one or two games on the left where Fahey has struggled, I'd be inclined to agree with you. But as you say, he's been there for best part of two years, and hasn't really adapted to the position.

If he's only going to provide a benefit by playing as centre midfield, then he's got to realise that he's fourth or fifth choice at best.

Keith Fahey is a better passer of a football than Barry ferguson will ever be and he also has a far better shot on him. Unfortunately his tackling is much too gentle and he has obviously been watching far too many vidoes of BF's raking back passes. He even runs like him.

Difference is for me I would rather Ridge be playing out of position. I much prefer him at left back, don't know why but he scares the rubbish out of me when he plays at CB even though that is his proper position.

you can only play against what is put in front of you, but you still have to do a job which he did very well yesterday. If he was a little bit stronger in the tackle he'd be a very good player for blues.

If you look back over the years; over different managers; left midfield is the "I don't know how else to fit him in/Idon't have anyone suitable position"
There have been dozens of players ( some of them very good ones ) made to look poor by playing them out of position there.

The thing that impressed me most with Fahey yesterday were his corners and his freekicks.

The way he pings the ball in makes it very hard to deal with, forced a good save from weaver as well from that free kick

Most underrated player at the club imo. I remember him scoring a fair few free kicks for St Pats; if larsson does move on come the summer, fahey and bowyer's corners are just as good, if not better.

do you ever post anything positive? if hes not up to it how come every time he's played in the centre he has played well? Look at stoke away where he completely changed the game for us, or at villa at home where apart from bentley he was probably our man of the match. give the guy some credit where it's due

I personally think Fahey is underrated. I didn't see the match yesterday so can't comment on that, but when I've seen him play he's done well, if not outstandingly so, but if Fahey isn't going to take on a full back then it's not his fault if he's played out of position.

It's all very well saying that he should adapt to a new position, but some players just aren't suited to certain areas of the pitch. Fahey has shown himself to be capable of keeping the ball and calmly playing it to a teammate, rather than just aimlessly hoofing it. If he was playing in the centre, we might see a better array of passing where he has the space to open his body up rather than being confined to the touchline.

He may not be the easiest to spot as a good performer, but if you were to watch him objectively rather than just look for his mistakes you might find a decent player.
