Just seen this on BBC Sports;

"Sunderland defender John Mensah will be out for at least three weeks after suffering a groin injury in Saturday's 3-2 home defeat by West Brom."

"The manager has a headache for Saturday's crucial Premier League trip to former club Birmingham with Mensah joining fellow centre-back Titus Bramble on the sidelines and Ferdinand battling to shake off a hamstring problem."

Is Mensah all that good and will his absence make any difference?

Mensah can be terrific - when he gets a decent run in the team. Usually crocked.
Sky rating has him at 6.2 & Bramble at 6.7

Whereas they have RJ at 6.6 & SD at 6.8

Mensah is a great defender, but is made of glass so we only see him a few times a season. As for Bramble he's injured which is a shame (surprisingly) because he's been very good in the defence with Turner and Ferdinand (when he can be bothered)

depending on injuries Sunderlands back four is likely to be:

El Mohamady -------- Onouha ------ Turner ------ Bardsley

Still pretty decent but i think we can definately get at that back four

I wouldnt right the Sunderland off just yet. They are in the spotlight at the moment and will be really wanting to make amends and prove they can cut it.

Our front 6 will have to be really motivated if they want to get anything at all from them. Nevertheless we must get forward in numbers engage their back 4, be determined to cause them problems and get shots on their goal.

Come On Blues

Hopefully we steer clear of giving away silly free kicks on the edge of our box as Phil Bardsley can strike a ball......

Sunderland have got one point out of a possible 24 in their last 8 games.

2-0 blues or I will be shocked.

In all competitions quite a few times

beat Millwall 4-1
beat MK Dons 3-1
beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0

In the Prem the last time we won by more than one goal was the 2-0 home win against Blackpool on October 23rd

But as I've often said on here.....I'd rather see Blues win 1-0 with a defensive set up than lose 3-4 with an attacking one

Points are points.....at the end of the day, this is what counts **thumbup

Yes, its called goal differance and at the end of the season it can be worth at least 1 point and keep you up and thats worth 50 million quid, By the way, would you bet against that happening this season? i wouldn`t.

Sunderland go into Saturday's game at Birmingham suffering from a dearth of centre-halves.

Manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Anton Ferdinand will be unavailable, while Titus Bramble is set to see a specialist over a knee cartilage problem.

Meanwhile John Mensah will also miss the game with an adductor tear which has ruled him out for around three weeks.

That leaves Nedum Onuoha and Michael Turner as the only central defenders available.

Loan star Sulley Muntari is also expected to miss Saturday's game with a calf problem.

However, Bruce also told safc.com that Kieran Richardson is "a possibility" for Saturday's game, meaning he could compete with Ahmed Elmohamady and Phil Bardsley for a full-back spot.

Richardson was substituted at half time during last week's defeat to West Brom but has responded well this week and could figure.

Fraizer Campbell (knee) will likely miss the rest of the season, while David Meyler is also unavailable due to a knee problem.

Hopefully we'll line up

Mingolet
Bardsley Onouha Turner Richardson
Henderson Sessegnon Cattermole Malbranque
Welbeck
Gyan

Looks strong when written down but our confidence is shattered and if we go ahead, there's every chance that you lot will come back and win. There's also the possibility that you go ahead and we totally capitulate and could get beat 3/4 which could see the end of Steve Bruce.

I doubt he will be gone but the fact is when you look at where we were 8 weeks ago, sitting comfortably in the top 8, it is astounding that we are now deep in a relegation battle. Everywhere he has gone, he's enjoyed good starts to the season but not been able to progress after the January transfer window and that's without the money he's had up here. He brought in Sessegnon and Muntari who haven't really done much to prove that they're worth the outlay. Sessegnon has shown glimpses but he's been used on the left hand side by the tactically inept Bruce. Muntari is also being played in his wrong role. He's been used as a defensive midfielder when he's more the type to dictate play and turn up late in the box. Then you look at the team sheet, we have Bardsley, a right back, playing left back, Welbeck, a striker playing either on the left hand side or on the right, Sessegnon, as stated before, on the left. Henderson, a right winger playing in centre midfield and Anton Ferdinand playing anywhere. There's a story circulating up in the North East gathering pace that when Bruce first came to the club, he had a disagreement with the head physiotherapist, who had been at the club a long time. He wanted players to hurry their return from injury so they'd be involved in pre-season. He was told by the medical staff that it was unreasonable to expect them to do so as this would increase the chance of the injury recurring. A few days later, the first team squad and those returning from injury were told they'd be having a practice match on the beach. Again he was told that this was a very bad idea as the players bodies would not take the strain on the beach. Bruce overruled this and went ahead with the match. 6 players were injured and missed the start of the season. All in all, I think Mr Bruce has taken us as far as he can.

Well SuperSunderland, I think most Blues fans will relate to the injury problems, as we had similar here under Bruce, I think he does rush players back too quick, quite often a player would be "fit", and then after 2 or 3 games would probably most most of the season.

And yes, even though he did a lot for us, Bruce isn't the best tactical manager out there.

i could be completely wrong but didn't bruce have similar problems with injuries when he was at blues?

maybe he needs to look at his training methods.
