The Charity Shield is a complete waste of time. A glorified preseason friendly of interest only to armchair, bandwagon-jumping, "fans" of top 4 clubs who think football is like Top Trumps.

Bit harsh

It is a friendly but it's very much a part of English football tradition and culture

The FA Cup winners play the League Champions at Wembley as a curtain raiser for the new season

What could be better then that ??

It's called The Community Shield these days and funds are raised from the game to help the needy as well so it's not all bad

A young, wavy-haired man once told me (and I shall stand by it)... "Never say Never"
