This is the first clean sheet we have kept in 10 league games (since beating stoke 1 - 0)

Last season's success was built upon our defense. I know people will probably not want to hear this but survival will also be based upon it. We will only really score the odd one or two goals, therefore clen sheets are so importsnt

Listening to TR whilst driving to the match - he quoted George Graham who always said "strikers will win you games but defenders will win you titles". I don't think we're in for winning the title but premiership survival is probably financially more important - so I'm with George in principle on this one.

interestingly though, george graham is the only defensivley minded manager I can remember winning tites and various cups

under graham arsenal were the kings of the 1 - 0 - and those teams nder graham with dixion, keown, adams, bould were a joy to watch real defenders putting in real tackles. Johnson is made in their mold

Im not sure these days defences can win you titles. The standard is so high, skill level and speed. We had a good defence all season but the front 6 were failing to cause enough problems up front. We have moved up the gears recently to play more offensively and have been rewarded.

Defences cant keep you in this league. You have to earn the points required and that means scoring more goals than the opposition and winning enough games. The defence playing well can give you a chance of staying in this league and given this the front 6 need to take an attack minded attitude, create chances, score goals and win the game.

No question. A strong defence gives you a chance to pick up points.

If we can keep hold of RJ & Dann for next seaon, and bring in a decent LB (if west ham go down I'd like Wayne Bridge) I'd be happy

I'd pass on Bridge to be honest, 95k a week and he's been pretty poor for them.

Bruce used to quote united when he played for them - pass it eric cantona to nick a goal and keep a clean sheet

Yes but they were still scoring and winning we had one of the lowest goal scoring rates in all 4 divisions as the pundits kept reminding us.

Im not suggesting that we change strategy from having a tight defence or all players taking on responsibility to win back the ball but the front 6 must take responsibility for attacking the opposition and winning matches that's what we pay them for.

We have to get them 42+ points it's not the defence job to get them it's the front 6.

I think we have to be realistic, either Scott D or Roger J will be away in close season. I really want us to keep RJ - he is a real leader - and would reluctantly let SD go for £12m- £14m. With Johnson, jiranek, Ridgewll and davies we are well served at CB.

Use the funds from SD to bolster the funds we need to bring in a LB, CM, RM and 2 Strikers.
