i'm not a fan of players coming back after they've left but with DJC his attitude whilst here was spot on - it's just a shame he was bought in to do a job that was (at the time) out of his depth.

he has matured and shows his strength and pace and he's got a few goals this season so if Blackpool did go down then i would seriously consider a bid for him.

I wouldn't we've seen him and Jerome head to head, and honestly while I'm not a big fan of Jerome, for me, as much as I preferred DJ cos he was so likable, I think Jerome is actually the better player. DJC misses as many good opportunities as Jerome, it's just at Blackpool he has 10x as many opportunities to miss.

for me these are the stats that count - Jerome 3 goals, position 114 and DJC 13 goals and 6th.

the sooner our supporters get used to the fact that CJ is not a natural finisher the better - Campbell has far better instincts and it's goals that win games. with Blackpool's forward line (& Charlie Adam) and our defence and we'd be easily knocking on the top 8...

let's just repeat those stats - out of 20 Premier League teams our main striker finished 114th on the list of top scorers! and you still think he's better than the bloke who finished 108 places above him from a team (currently) below us in the table! madness.

I'd much rather have DJ up front than Jerome, but I think we all need to come to the realisation that with McLeish in charge and playing his brand of football we're unlikely to see ANY striker ever score on a consistent basis.

We could have Cristiano Ronaldo up front for us and he'd struggle to reach double figures a season.

I wonder if you put Jerome in the Blackpool side he would be more prolific than Campbell simply because they would play to his strengths.

Bring Campbell here and use him in the same way as we do Jerome and its likely the outcome would be similar.

Thing is though mate, if Jerome was playing for Blackpool, he'd likely have as many goals as DJC has now, and if DJC played for us, he'd likely have 3 goals.

I don't think anyone is saying that no one is better than Jerome. What i am suggesting is its not all down to the player and by swapping players / clubs the effect would be the same.

i hear what you're saying about the style of play and all that and, to a degree, i think you're right but... Jerome is not a finisher whatever team you put him in whereas DJC is a more instinctive finisher.

the other thing about your arguments seems to be DJ vs CJ but personally i do not see why we couldn't add DJ to the squad and he can play with Jerome.

True, but for me DJC isn't really a natural finisher, if you actually watch some of the chances that he's missed for Blackpool this season, they're just as bad as Jerome's. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely think we need to add better quality than Jerome, I just think DJC is unlikely to score many goals on a regular basis, and as such I don't think he'd be worth it, especially since his price will be over-inflated after this season.

you may be right but strikers everywhere miss chances... i like his enthusiasm, aggression and of course pace too.

just not sure - if we stay up - that we will afford a striker of £10m plus.

Thats what the Villa said, and look at what they did they invested in someone who scores goals on a consistent basis and its paid dividends.

For our club to move on we have to aim higher than (one season wonders)
Jerome,McSheffery, DJ Campbell, etc add the fees for those players together and its not far short of 10m.

Invest in quality and we will reap the rewards.

i'm in total agreement with you there Willie but can you see the club doing that and, if so, who would you bring in...?

for me Pavyluchenko, Defoe or Gyan.

I love DJC, he's forever a legend in my eyes, but whether he's actually a good player, or done well when high on confidence in a team that creates many, many chances, is a different matter.

Now that is the big question. any one of them would be a start but look at how those players operate at their present clubs.

would our style suit them ?

Do we already have the players to get the best out of them?

Could the manager get the best out of them ?

It would require a whole new way of thinking from the board down to get anyone of those players and then to get the best out of them.

I remember way back when DJ and Jerome tore Newcastle to pieces in a 5-1 win. They seemed to get on great that day. I think if we'd had DJ Campbell in our side this season we might have finished mid table.

Id take DJ over CJ any day of the week,a forwards job is to put the ball in the back of the net and DJ is 10x better than CJ for that,if you want someone who can run round and feed a forward then thats called a midfield player or maybe CJ might do better from midfield
