Today was McLeish's 100th Premier League game as managwer of Blues - Record since Alex took over - remember his 1st game was a win at Spurs :

Played - 100. Won 26. Drawn 35. Lost 39

Goals Scored - 108. Conceded - 145.

Bruce : Played - 166. Won 47. Drawn 47. Lost 72.
Scored - 165. Conceded - 215.

Average Scored per game - very similar, and just not good enough...

Gutted we've been relegated (no thanks to Stoke) - but we will bounce back. We do, however, need to change the way we play. At least give the forwards half a chance to score.....

C.

PS: And the only 3 times we've won just 8 Prem League games we have been relegated.

(Stayed up 4x too - with 11+ wins each time)

15 draws this season. McLeish being too scared to lose and setting up shop to avoid that rather to go and win has cost us the ultimate price.

Only being able to cheer a goal 36 league goals is pathetic for the fans really.

The Championship is full of free scoring teams, Cardiff being a notable example who when the time comes fail to become PL sides.
Being miserly at the back doesn't make for exciting football it's true, but it has on the last 2 relegations got us automatic promotion on the first time of asking - something which cannot be taken for granted.

Both Bruce and McLeish are a legacy of Sullivan and Messrs. Gold that we need to offload and forget - fast.

Unfortunately, that other element the previous board had a hand in, Yeung, is going to be even harder to banish

You're right about Stoke. I loathe them after today with their stupid song about a bloke shooting his wife!

I want to enjoy watching Blues again in the league. That comes first and foremost for me. Call me selfish but I do not want to be in the championship grinding out results playing negative football.

West Ham were the next lowest scorers - and they got 43.

Which equals (or beats) all but ONE of our seasons in the prem.

02/03 - 41 (49 conceded)
03/04 - 43 (48)
04/05 - 40 (46)
05/06 - 28 (50). Yes, just 28. Relegated. Sunderland scored 26 and finished bottom.
07/08 - 46 (62). Relegated by 1 point. 1 more and GD would've saved us.
09/10 - 38 (47). Highest finish for years.
10/11 - 37 (58). Carling Cup Winners. Again, relegated by 1 point. Sadly, 1 more point wouldn't have saved us this time - too few Goals scored.

So - Our best Prem League season for Goals Scored saw us relegated. It was our worst for goals conceded, though..

And - as noted before - we've been relegated 3 times having only won 8 games each time.

KRO,
C.

they only scored 38 last season?

this shows we may have finished high up then but last season's football was every bit as negative as this year. The one difference is this year they could neither defend nor score.

Perhaps enough time has passed for some of us to forget the highly entertaining but ultimately fruitless campaigns under TF 10-15 years ago. Some lovely football, plenty of goals but plenty of concession too - scoring 3 is lovely but if you concede 4 at the back what was it all for?
I have no problem with people wishing to see entertaining football and think criticisms of Bruce and McLeish's tactics at times have been perfectly valid, even if I personally don't agree. But make no mistake - entertainment and promotion are not the happiest of bed fellows.
This season in the Championship a sub league of lovely attacking footballing sides has consisted of, in no particular order:
Middlesborough
Cardiff
Millwall
Leeds
Forest
Leicester
Hull
Watford
Loads of goals, booger all to show for it.
The promoted and playoff sides are those who have conceded the least - not necessarily those who have scored the most.

... and don't forget we got promoted two years ago with the lowest "goals scored" for any team acheiving automatic promotion from The Championship.
