I'd swap the Carling cup for Premiership football in a heartbeat.

There are few points here

Firstly if, and a big if, Blues are promoted this time next year and its been a great season of winning games and Villa have had another mid season campain then you will be glad that Blues actually went down with another premiership season to look forward to.

Secondly you pick your club and love your club and as others have said no matter what happens you should be there for them. ALL footballers these days are mercenries so they dont matter but the supporters do. Blues fans need to Keep The Faith and continue to support their club.

Lastly the carling cup is now set in history and will always be; football is about the days at Wembley and nothing should be traded for it

But i think our obsession with them is a little embarassing to be honest

:o

We dont have an "obsession" with them!

Certainly not any more than they do with us. Youd be forgiven for not realising Villa were playing yesterday - not one of their fans mentioned that they beat Liverpool. And last week, none of them mentioned beating Arsenal - they were just going on about how we were going down.

The obsession comes from their side far more **thumbup

I'd swap the Carling cup for Premiership football in a heartbeat.

Why?
Because of the financial insanity that is modern football it is impossible for us to win the Premiership ( and it's also true for another 15 or so clubs ). When in the top flight we are there to make the numbers up. By contrast, it is just possible, with luck, skill and players putting in a performance they will not better in their career to win a cup.
So why would you swap? We might well get into the Premiership again ( to make the numbers up ) : but until the mega money clubs booger off to form a European super league ( the sooner the better ) we will not stand a prayer of winning it.
Take the deal we have been given . A cup win which for most supporters will be the highlight of a lifetime of support.

look at the vile fans now... all they have to talk about is the blues... their mid table finish is hardly inspiring is it??

Haven't you been praising AM all season for our exact same finish last year?

Villa invested heavily in a goal scorer & deserved to stay up, those are the facts.

True.
One of the advantages Villa have over us is their youth system.
Every season they produce 2-3 players good enough for the first team. That means that they have more money to fill the other positions, like the most difficult one which is of course the strikers.
When was the last time we got a youth player through to the first team? We even have ended up paying £3m for Gardner ( a bluenose);why didn't we spot him and bring him in as a youth?

We are light years behind Villa - in terms of structure wage bill finance

Winning a cup does not change that

Would i want to be a villa fan never

But i think our obsession with them is a little embarassing to be honest

I think they are more obsessed with us, most of my friends are vile fans and all they care about is finishing above us. Also, all they sing about is us as well. I'm glad to see that SOTV is sang less these days but go to vile park and all they sing is SOTC and the other one I can't remember.

After listening to the jumped off ***** today at work, the obsession is definately on their side more than ours.

I don't really give a ***** about them, why they are so bothered by us is anyones guess. We are no real threat to them, they have a bigger ground, more supporters, better infrastructure and more money to spend.

The thing that most of them say is 'your supporters are ****in horrible, not so good little club etc' I can only summarise that most have been unfortunate enough to have been punched on the end of the nose by some of us!! ;)

Relegation or promotion, give it three or four years and all we will remember is the cup.

How poor are the Villa, we get relegated and are still the most successful team in the midlands!

How does that make sense? Championship next season? I would hardly call that successful. In addition two wins since Carling Cup win? The team let the fans down majorly. When people remember the Carling Cup win they will remember relegation too. Is this the first time a Cup winner has gone down in Premiership history?

difference was it was our first year back in the prem, for them it is a step backwards!!

for anyone who doesn't think they are obsesed with us, check out their celebrations after their game yesterday on hearing we had been relegated. Video available on youtube!

its the loudest they have been in years!

You missed my point. Supporting the villa is soooo boring

Thats why they have so many more trophies than us then?

And more fans it hurts me to say.

Is this the first time a Cup winner has gone down in Premiership history?

Yeah, first team since it has been the Premier League.

First side to be relegated after winning a cup since Norwich in 1984/85. We were also promoted that season as second division runners up.

This year is the exact reverse. :silence:

They finished in the same spot as our best ever finish in the prem though, I would have settled for a top 9 finish over relegation even if it is boring.

Villa had an average season this year, but they finished 6th 3 yrs in a row before this one & went to Wembley twice. I certainly would'nt scoff at that, although they didnt win a cup! :D

I would scoff at that, they went to Wembley twice & what did they bring back,,,F*** all. We went once & WON the CARLING CUP. Record books show.... BIRMINGHAM CITY 2011 CARLING CUP WINNERS. :dancer:
