Somewhat disappointed.

However, decision made and made quickly. Also very very pleased to see we're expecting an immediate return to the prem and not just planning for stability.

I'm certain Alex McLeish will have to recognise the problems. Things will have to change, and I expect good quality signings.

i want to cry and laugh. cry because i remember the last season we spent in the championship, and the amount of boredom and frustration i endured.

laugh at all the people that believe he will have an epiphany, and start playing actual football and not slop.

Some say "in alex we trust". You trust in relegation, boring football, least goals scored in a season and he wants to hang onto the oap's who can't run anymore.

As someone else said,"grow a spine". We need a new manager

It's not happening so get behind you team!!!!

You'd need to be stark raving mad to pay good money to go and watch that rubbish next season. All of you who are aint-McLeish vote with your feet and stay away next season.

Yesterday Mcleish said that the only way blues would get promotion was if we hung on to our key players; Foster, Dann etc

Today McLeish has been backed by the board who expect automatic promotion.

I would rather Eck had gone, but an early decision is better than 3 weeks of specualtion. Does anyone else think that this early decision indicates that the board are prepared to hang on to key players for another season at least? The fact that they expect automatic promotion would also indicate that our finances are not as dire as you would seem, and with Eck staying it is likely that McFadden and Ferguson will stay too.

or am i just clutching at straws here

I think that is a very good summary of the situation.

The Board know that if we sell our best players they can say goodbye to promotion. Eck has one chance to prove himself. If we are not top 2/3 at Christmas Eck will go.

At the end of the day, if we're in the top 2 at Christmas or at least a point off then he'll be doing well and it'll look like we've got a chance of coming up.

But, if we're any lower than that then there has to be some serious questions asked and the board must be decisive, just as they have done now.

Im glad they made a quick decision, it means planning for next season starts today. Eck knows what is needed he isn't stupid. I for one am looking forward to seeing who we sign this summer. At least the ones who feel some loyalty towards McLeish will think twice about leaving! No matter if you wanted him to stay or go the time is to get behind the lads and lets batter the **** out of everyone in this league! Can't wait for the season to start and the road back to the prem!

I'm disappointed because I think his chance has been and gone but the best thing we can do now as supporters is allow him the opportunity to start over again from scratch.

Some of his signings/targets have indicated some promise of better things to come for this team - you have to consider what kind of season we would have had if he'd landed the likes of Pav, Babel, Dembele & N'Zogbia.

I'm just fearful he'll start building a side without the foundation of youth again, instead opting for a bunch of 1 season wonders which wont allow for any continuity. I expect to see a lot more gametime for Asante, Mutch and Redmond next season.

Excellent news

:applause:

Nice to have some stability and thanks to the board for doing the right thing.
Lets review the situation at Christmas time and make our judgements then.

We will be fine...trust me

**thumbup

:kro:

yOU AND OTHERS JUST MAKE ME LAUGH.

This was said this season, let's wait until,,,,. I posted so many times act now and get rid before it is too late instead of this let's wait until - the result of waiting is it is too late and he has relegated us for the second time.

Wait until Christmas, believe me will be too late. We will be out of the running by then.

Can't really see us running the championship next season, but with Mcliesh i can see us getting promoted but it'll mean another season of dire football. We've said it at the end of every season on how 'Mcliesh will start playing attacking football nxt season' but in the end, he doesn't, we'll probably get promotion, but i can't imagine the football being very entertaining at all. :(

After thinking about it though and looking at the fixures for next season, i'm really loooking forward to the midlands away games! :dancer:

what a relief - great news
He remains our greatest ever manager and was 3 mins away from our greatest season performance ever
with all the players out of contract etc it means the business will be done quickly players sorted and the club be in the best shape it can be for the season ahead

it also means ferguson gardner et all will stay
I also think we can expect the clubs shortfall to be met by one or two players leaving

it also means the club have to get more on a footing like wolves ( profitable and debt free) rather than chase the dream

what a relief

europe here we come 18th or 25th august - can't wait

Good decision...Alex is the only guy holding this club together. Come next season,
I only want player's who are fully committed to the Blues. Get rid of the rest.

kicking us while Wer'e down, is not the way to go!
Where's the mans decency gone?
He should at least have offered his resignation!
Can we not start a petition, similar to the misguided Bowyer one.

In two-and-a-half season in the premier league under McLeish Blues have had one good half season. Other than that it has been abysmal. That my friends is a fact.

:LMAO: Are you serious?!?! How can you honestly say he's our greatest ever manager?!?! If he was we wouldn't have been relegated... TWICE under his leadership!!!

Again... are you serious? You honestly believe that the massive drop in income that relegation has caused will be solved by selling "one or two players"?

You poor deluded person!! Go stick your head back in the sand with all the other ostriches!! You'll regret your blind and naive optimism when we're floundering mid-table at Christmas and the Board finally sack him!

Because he's done it before; it might convince players to stay who might've though otherwise. He is very good defensively so that will guarantee a top half finish and with a decent striker or two we will be able to get into the top 6 easily.

Mcleish was the easy option. the board have bottled it IMO but it might prove to be a stroke of genius. I think mcleish will feel he has let the fans down so will want to repay them next season.

Hughton/ Di Matteo would be far more exciting but a far bigger risk

BB, I've come the distressing conclusion that some of the guys on here actually enjoy the boring drivel McLeish serves up. As they say there's owt so queer as folk.

The board have said his job is safe, doesn't necessarily mean he'll be our manager next season, he could walk or be offered another job.

I just find it hard to get excited about another season under a manager who played 4-5-1 something like 18 times in the league without producing a single win (what top manager does that), thinks Cameron (1 in 5) Jerome upfront on his own is a good idea, thinks Keith Fahey is a Premier League player and barely got anything out of the likes of Bentley and Hleb.

Who on earth would want him, though? The guy's a proven loser. Maybe he could get a job behind a bar?

Terrible decision, football has changed its moved on. We'll get nowhere with a team of steady workhorses that 'oh eck' loves.

Its so blindingly obvious we need a team that attacks with pace and movement something so lacking in all of 'oh ecks' blues teams.

He will not change his ways it'll be the same keep it tight and nick a one nil rubbish that was served up last time in the championship.

I really hope he proves me wrong but just cannot see it based on the last 3 seasons.

Our scoring problems have come down to our strikers not being fit or not 'doing it' rather than our tactics

Yes, our tactics are not the same as Blackpool's but thats because Blackpool know they can not defend at all!

I know, Nobody likes blaming injuries but this season I actually think thats what it has come down to. 39 points will keep you up in any other season and results went against us so badly in the last few games.

Scott Dann was such a miss this season, his partnership with Johnson last season was fantastic.

All strikers fit and our partnership up top would of been Zigic and Martins...How many minutes have these two played together this season?

Alex is a great man and a great manager, we should be proud to have him.
