Does It Matter Who We Bring In?; No faith in McLeish to use them properly

Just to remind you all, over the last few years we've had Arsenal and Barcelona worthy Alexander Hleb; £15m Tottenham and England international David Bentley; Serbian international god Nikola Zigic; the top goalscoring striker in South America, Christian Benitez; Lazio's Argentinian ace Mauro Zarate and Spurs Honduran enforcer Wilson Palacios...

...and McLeish hasn't had a clue how to use any of them.

So, now he's bafflingly been rewarded for relegating us with our best ever squad with another season at our helm, who actually thinks the players we sign in the summer will be used properly? In particular attacking players.

This is the guy who brought in Marcus Bent.

I was looking forward to some transfer banter under an exciting new manager - thinking we'd get to see a lot more of Nathan Redmond, Jordon Mutch and Akwasi Asante and see some good attacking players integrated into our team properly - but as it is, I couldn't be less enthused.

Anyone else feel the same?

:(

100% agree Will.... I like you have been saying for at least 18 months that McLeish is clueless.....

Can't believe for the life of me that he's getting another season!

:banghead: :banghead:

Whoever we sign (If we actually sign anyone) will be the ultra defensive type....

So you are going to ignore all the good players he has bought that have proven to be a success for us. Sure he has misused some players but he should learn from his mistakes.

First of all Marcus Bent was quality :fishing:

But seriously, Zigic took an age to adapt and by February he was scoring a goal every other game. We knew how to play with Big Zig, and his departure was one of the main reasons we were so out of ideas going forwards.

Hleb has been a disappointment, never fully fit and so so injury prone. Palacios had about 2 games with Eck before Spurs signed him and Bentley hasn't done it.

Funny thing is i thought he knew how to play Benitez, alongside Jerome in a 4-4-2? Didn't that get us our 15 game unbeaten run? Should have used him more but there were rumours of problems behind the scenes so i can't really comment

Zarate i will concede; Mcleish should have started him alongside Forssell, he was amazing at home against Man City (after which i couldn't see us going down, like Sunderland this season), and Bentley i agree, although Larsson has really upped his game and deserved his starting place.

Name an advanced player (midfield or attack) McLeish has brought in and proved to be a sustained success.

I'm clutching at straws when I say McFadden, because whilst I really do like him, he has been injured for a lot of the time and hasn't exactly weighed in with a decent amount of goals.

I have faith.

Are we going to forget the players who AM has made a success down the Blues?

RJ
Dann
Ferguson
Carr
Gardner

I will admit he has not had the same success with attacking players that he has with defensive players. I think he needs to get in an assistant manager who is attack minded and can get the best out of our attackers. We need to be able to mix a strong defence with an effective attack. If we do, getting back up should not be the challenge everyone is fearing.

Key word was sustained success. I'd argue Gardner is the only one.

Phillips was never going to always be in the starting line up but from whats been required from him when coming off the bench over the last few seasons i think he has been a success.

Hleb was a load of rubbish here.

Palacios was hardly used well by Bruce, so its not just McLeish is it... and lets be honest, he hardly done anything for us when he did play.

Bentley - see Hleb.

Zigic was fine once he settled in, and we'd have stayed up had he been fit more since the cup final.

Benitez, I agree he took too long to start playing him, but then he became a consistent player in our starting line up, and still didnt score goals... hardly McLeish 'not being able to use him properly'.

Zarate was the only real one I agree with, he shouldve played more, and had obvious talent...
