Very sensible reflection; there won't be one game we would not consider winnable - or losable - unlike the prem where the top 6/7 are virtually unbeatable asnd the rest simply fight to stave off relegation. Throw in Europe and a good cup run - could be a great season. Let's hope there's less diving and cheating and less foreign players.

..unlike the thrill of Stoke. Bolton, Blackburn, Wigan, Fulham, QPR, Swansea(?), Sunderland. Let's not kid ourselves, like we did, they are simply making up the numbers for the money bags teams.

I did say virtually and yes, of course there'll be the odd upset. My point is that we are in the Championship, let's look at it postively - no amount of whining (see other boards) is going to change it. If we can keep the spine of the team together, it could be an entertsaining season.

if you don't like foreigners - why do you want to be in Europe???

Nothing like a spot of casual racism to help dull the pain of relegation!!! :crying:

I understand your argument but I loath being in the championship – I have aspirations of us winning more trophies and pushing on as a club that could eventually compete for champions league place. That looks further away with every relegation and I can see us staying down for a while this time.

Honestly, I do.

I think the Championship does, and always will, beat the Premiership. It has a air of unpredictability. People say that anyone can beat anyone in the Prem, but is it really true? Man Utd didn't lose a game a home all season. I believe 18 wins and 1 draw was the final count. Your not telling me that these statistics make for an interesting league.

In the Championship, anyone can win the league, and anyone can be promoted. Just look at recent years, Blackpool and previously Derby have both been promoted, both with shoe string budgets, completely out of the blue, and I'll admit, I don't envy Derby's season of misery, but the fact they were even promoted is something that gives everyone in that division hope.

It's possible for newly promoted teams to come up and stand a chance of winning the league, just take Norwich and Leeds for example. No one could have expected them to be fighting for the title this season, but that's exactly what they did.

To win the Premiership, you have to be the richest club in the world, and that for me is a farce. Man City will win it next year, because they'll pay the biggest wages. For a club like us, the Premiership is a joke. There really is no point in us being there, we can't achieve anything but for mid table mediocrity, we and 15 other clubs are all about making up the numbers.

I personally think there is something far more 'real' about the lower leagues. There are no glory supporters or 'plastic' fans at a game between Nottingham Forest and Cardiff.

I think that standing a chance of winning every single game we go into is far more exciting and enjoyable, than hoping for a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

Don' forget guys, we are now in the 4th most supported league in Europe, and we stand a darn good chance of winning it! That for me, is plenty to be optimistic about!

TFIB :blues:

I admire your optimism mate and can understand your view of the Championship being a more honest and down-to-earth, less money-driven league. I prefer it for that yes.

Although you've used Man United's stats as claiming the Prem isn't an "interesting league". I think we could all agree this season's Prem has probably been the most bizarre, exciting and unpredictable ever. And definitely one that Blues have been involved in.

"In the Championship, anyone can win the league" - I disagree with that mate. Yes well supported bigger clubs (Leeds and Norwich for example) do stand a good chance of getting a second successive promotion, but I'm sure the likes of Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Crystal Palace didn't stand a chance of winning the league. Why? Money. Same as in the Prem.

I agree that the Prem is a joke in terms of money being able to buy the league, and that it is far too concentrated on that aspect. But in our hey-day of the '50's and '70's - we were still a "mid-table mediocrity team" with the traditionally big clubs still dominating.

It will probably always be that way too unless we get a sudden massive increase of transfer funds.

But yeah, next season, more wins (hopefully), more goals and time for dominating teams rather than being dominated (oo-err). :blues:

Bring on West Ham, Leeds, Cardiff etc and fingers crossed a promotion :lager: :dancer:

I am looking forward to it as with the last time we went down we can have a clear out and get rid of the rubbish...

This time hopefully he will play the youth (mutch, readmond etc) and pick up a few good players from the teams around us and from the leagues below us...

Phillips was interviewed on Talk Sport and he said apart from the younger players that have been involved in the 1st team the rest of not of a high standard so lets hope AM brings some others in..

Some of the better players in the prem league have come up from the championship (RJ, Dann, Charlie Adams, Jarvis etc) so lets hope we can uncover some more and go up in style

Pretty positive thread!

More games, more goals, more fun.

The difference in quality between top half of the Champ and bottom of the Prem isn't that big anymore (Look how many team come up and are competitive recently - Hull, Burnley, us, Wolves, Albion, Blackpool etc.)

Its not the end of the world being in the Championship and i too am looking forward to it. Don't get me wrong id rather be in the Prem but seeing us beat teams by 3 and 4 goals could be great.

Watching some idiot on 200k a week throw himself to the ground to cheat us out of a point, not seeing super-refs give ridiculous decisions to the big 6, seeing Rooney elbow someone in the head and be allowed to play and score next week because the PL/FA dont want to upset him, going to games knowing we are going to lose because Man Utd are allowed to be 700m in debt to finance spending £30m on a player. They are things i can certainly live without.

I knew there was something bugging me about this post and now I've found it.

"seeing us beat teams by 3 and 4 goals could be great."

Last time we won a league game by 3 or more goals?

11th May 2008 - Blues 4 - 1 Blackburn
Murphy, Jerome (2), Muamba

Since then the best we've managed is 2-0 on just 6 occasions. Plus a solitary 3-1 against Sheff Wed.

Just for the record the last 4 goal win was 23.12.2006 away at Southend.

Last time we got more than 3 at home was 21.01.2006 Blues 5 - 0 Portsmouth

If you call that record over 3 years exciting don't, what ever you do, take up watching paint dry it'll be too much for you.

Sorry guys, but personally I DON’T prefer life in the Championship. I was born in the mid-80s and therefore grew up never knowing what it was like to support a top-fight team. As a result even now watching Blues play in the Premier League feels special and I do feel a sense of pride at seeing our name on the fixture list alongside the likes of Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. Plus the Premier League generally offers a better standard of football (although usually from the opposition not from Blues unfortunately), more prestige, more revenue, bigger crowds, more exposure for the club etc.

I wouldn’t want to give that up on the assumption that we’re better off in a lower division because we may win more matches. If this club has any ambition to better itself then sooner or later we’ve got to establish ourselves in the top fight. And if that means we have to accept a few years of relegation battles and doing what it takes to survive in order that we may emerge stronger on the other side then so be it. After all it’s what Fulham and Bolton have done so there should be no reason why we can’t. Yo-yoing may mean life is never dull but it certainly does nothing to help the long-term stability of the club.

Also, saying the Championship is more fun surely depends on the fortunes of the team while playing in it. We've been lucky that our last three seasons at that level have ended in promotion, so naturally we've got positive memories of our time there. But suppose we have a bad season or two and inadvertently 'establish' ourselves as a lower league club again. Would we be happy if we became the next Coventry and spent a decade in the second tier without ever really looking like achieving promotion? There's no denying it's a possibility, just look at the number of clubs who were relegated and never made it back (Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton etc.) I would be heartbroken if Blues joined that list so I say to everyone who is happy we're in this division...BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

Prem football is the dogs ******
Prem football would mean we could have a realistic go at the Europa League
Prem football means we keep Foster, Dann, Johnson, Gardner, Zigic + more
Prem football means Villa fans have the quietest summer yet

Yeah Championship seems great.
I'm looking forward to it, but no way do i prefer it

Part of me at certain points during the season has wanted to be in the championship however non benificial to the club it would be, we should get to see some young talent coming through from the club and in transfers, we should also be winning a lot more and scoring more.
