There is no room for sentiment Phillips wages could be better spent elsewhere. he is a good player but we need to move on he has had his day.

id say defo in the premier league mate but who would get you more goals in the champ who we could realistically sign? As he would cost nothing in fee and with derbyshire and zigic likely to go back to where they came from combined with stoke wanting to give us 4m for jerome you'd think he's the only cert player upfront who is any good who would most probably stay...

Wants to stay at Brum, says if the club wants 15 to 20 goals next season he is the man  **thumbup

Give him another season :dancer:

he didnt say he wanted to stay

He said if Blues want 15 to 20 goals next season he is the man, said he has not been offered a new contract so will have to look for another club.
How clear is that?

no he never, he said offers are on the table from other clubs and if a club wants 15 -20 goals a season he is your man.

he didnt say blues at all.

thats what i heard too..offers from other clubs..we'd be mental to let him go really!! would have to start every game his legs permit...him an jerome if we can keep them both and id sign derbyshire as back up..

We are down because we cant score goals, so why keep the same forward line for next season. C Jerome is the first person out the door, he has sent us down by NOT scoring goals. Also Phillips can go, but keep Derbyshire.

How are 10 of our current squad going to find another Premiership Club?

By being relegated they have just proven to everyone that they are not capable of being successful in the Premiership.
Or have they been holding back and not giving Blues everything?
If so, shame on them!

Sounds to me that this is a cop out....
Are the players who apparently were so tight and committed and outspoken and devoted going to place the whole blame for relegation with the Manager?

The reason we have been relegated is due a major part to the players!
They are the ones who have failed on the pitch and if they weren't prepared correctly for each match do you honestly think that Ferguson, Carr, RJ, Ridge, Gardner, et al would have kept their mouths shut? :banghead:

Tactics, as Phillips said we didn't create enough chances and that was because of tactics.

He said he is 90% sure he would be going but if offered a new contract he would consider it, also said he is happy in the Midlands, also as Adrian Duram said he will be 38 next season.

Self motivated marketing exercise. Pure and simple.

He'd found out earlier in the day he wasn't getting a new contract so what's he do next? Go straight to the media and try and big up his own importance.

Granted he may be correct in a dozen players leaving but it was so obvious he was trying to scare monger to stress his own importance.

Put this in to context.

Until 5.45 last night we didn't know what league we were going to be in. If we had stayed in the Premiership then I don't think he would have been offered a contract.

As we're now Championship, I would have thought he might be offered another year (although he may have blown that now).

Whether he is a 15-20 goal striker, I doubt that very much at his age.

Other than that ha he said anything we don't know. Our players will want to leave, the academy isn't bringing much quality through, we're not loaded like Manchester City - if there was an award for stating the ****** obvious then Philips wins the award by a mile.

Phillips comments were not aimed at blues fans, he was just answering a question put to him which is news for other fans of other clubs.

Just listened to it, it was a strange interview. He said that if an offer was on the table he would consider it, he said mcleish would talk to the owners before deciding on who to keep them said he was 90% sure he wasn't going to be here next season, then says he's settled in the area.

No one really knows about our finances, we will find out in the coming months who is right and who is wrong. He did say that "with the players out of contract we would lose 10 players" which i think is reasonable.

In terms of liam ridgewell i can only assume he meant Scott Dann. He also really bigged Scott Dann up in that interview so that will only make him harder to hold onto.

I hope KP stays next season, as he is probably still up for the championship, but he really bigged himself up in that interview and i've lost a bit of respect for him. If we can get someone younger who can do the business then i would look to the future as lets face it KP cant start every game at his age, yet he's unhappy sitting on the bench

Tactics eh. Hmmm, then Philips is also being hypocritical because he is also quoted as saying;

has told talkSPORT he fears for Birmingham’s future following relegation from the Premier League.
The Blues failed to beat the drop after picking up just four points from their last seven league games, including a heartbreaking last-minute defeat to Tottenham on the final day of the season.
And Phillips is worried that there may be an exodus of top class players from the club this summer as many of the senior players in the side want to continue playing top-flight football.

Part of me fears that they could lose eight or nine players. There could be up to ten players leaving the club.

Kevin Phillips
He told Drive Time: “A part of me fears for Birmingham because there is a lot of players in that dressing room of a certain age, 28 or 29, who want to stay in the Premier League. It’s only natural, so part of me fears that they could lose eight or nine players. There could be up to ten players leaving the club.
“And it’s whether they can replace them with the quality that’s going to get them back into the Premier League because of the young players coming through at Birmingham I don’t see an awful lot there. There is maybe two, three or four [that could make it]. The players getting produced there is not great. :(

oh joy what a wonderful week this is becoming.

Nothing quite like supporting Birmingham City
