According to this, it was Montgomery who said not to go the mile extra for N'Zog and Pav..

Not sure if 100% true though

yeung seems like the kind of person who won't lie down. he clearly feels he needs to get us back into the premiership, and that can only be a good thing in terms of our hopes of keeping dann, foster and johnson.

i just hope our finances are up to scratch and he doesn't bankrupt us by trying too hard to get promoted

Would not trust the Mirror, and plus I agree with Montgomery's advice, if it was even him who advised not to proceed with the transfer. Spurs were messing us around and making us look foolish. The same with N'Zogbia who showed an amazing lack of respect to contract negotiations with us.
Am glad we did not proceed with either transfer.

We will be laying people off to cut costs and I daresay the press will try to attach a story to each departure.

Well Pav and Zog are defiantly better than what we had, Peter Odemwingie, Ryan Babel also.

Cannot believe we didnt sign N'Zogbia, if yeung was disuaded against paying his wages then sack him.

I believe he alone would of got us over the line, he basically did for Wigan

I think Pav's quality was obvious yesterday. Top player unfortunately for us.

If true this is a massive blow!

I have followed what paul montgomery has been doing for years and yes there may be a few flops but this is the man who found Drogba and Pav and Zarate to name a few

Had we not gone down in 08/09 we had an agreement to sign Zarate on a permanent basis so we cant blame him for us going down!

Reports earlier in the year linked him to Chelsea FFS! that doesnt happen for no reason.

Bad shout Carson if you do sack him. Ridiculous! :banghead:

It's a tough one. If everything is agreed and the player messes about what can you do. If he says I'll finally sign if you add on another 10k a week and you have to go back and sort that out how do you know he wont do it again.

I dont think it's the fact that Nzogbia asked for more money. It's the fact that he asked for more money after agreeing a number and it all being finalised.
He could have contacted them sooner and said actually I still think your getting me cheap can you improve it but he didnt.

I dont think Nzogbia gave them any choice. Yes Nzogbia has talent and he did it for Wigan but he effectively destroyed any trust between Birmingham City and player.

Blues didnt have much choice. Im sure Nzogbia will learn from it. He will realise he cant mess clubs about to that extent. It's just too bad we were the ones that had to teach him it.

Yeah instead of sacking him, they should bring in another scout. Fairly certain we only have the one. I know financial cut backs probably will prevent it but we really need to have a good system of scouts instead of relying on one.

A soon as Crouch went off....after a clash of heads with one of our defenders, I knew once Pavyulchenko came on, it wasn't going to be our day.....I just knew it, those are the kind of twists football always throws up

He's a top drawer striker.....Sadly, we have no chance of getting him now

But don't forget this is The Daily Mirror reporting this so I'd take it lightly

And in reality didn't Tottenham hold us to ransom over Pav ??? Didn't we agree a fee of 10 million for him and then suddenly they wanted an extra 3 million for him ??

That's how I remember it

N'Zogbia was almost done and dusted.....but the player wanted an extra 10K a week at the very last minute ......he'll be out of Wigan anyway come this summer

Back to Newcastle some are saying ....and they will have to pay a lot more than sold him for :LMAO:

We should concentrate our scouting on the Championship, the first Divn, Scandinavia, and mayb'e Scotland.
Forget Central/Southern America it's too big a gamble and it's too easy to be shafted.

That's because they have been second and third choices....
We never get Big Mac's first choice signing....
If we did then we wouldn't even be talking about Montgomery :)

And pay ridiculous prices to compete with everyone else who decided not to have a scouting network? :banghead:

If this is true, Monty has to go. You're only as good as the players you get in and this season, our loans have been right donkeys. Only Jiri was any good and he b&ggered off the moment we went down (gee thanks for that you t&sser).

Hang on a moment when we got these players in we were over the moon & agreed with not going for pav & N'zog. It's not his fault Hleb didnt suit Mcleish's football, zigic took time to adjust then picked up a groin injury & martins was going to be injured. We all knew the abilities of Pav & N'zog but if they didnt want to come unless we paid them the world the scout cant do anything. Chelsea were after him & i think he has been brilliant in being able to get these players in. Remember he put us on to odemwingie before the world cup and we bid £3.5 mill but the embarassed us in the paper saying they would not accept anything less than £8 mill. 6 weeks later they told him to albion for under 2, cant be his fault & surely people out there are looking at taking advantage of the chinese who have no experience in dealing with the vulture agents out there. Sacking him would be a MASSIVE mistake.

Agreed mate! Problem is... they needed a scapegoat to steer the responsibility away from McLeish... and he would be MUCH cheaper to sack than Eck! **thumbup

While they are at it they can sack Peter Grant as well, he has been a failure as Assistant Manager.

:applause: :applause: :applause:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Grant_(footballer)

What a Track Record:
Assistant to Pardew at Wet Spam prior to the arraival of the Icelandics
Manager of Norwich and replaced by Glenn Roeder
Assistant to Mowbray at WBA
Assistant to Mowbray at Celtic

And we wonder why everything has gone wrong since he arrived with Blues? :banghead:
