The negativity of the rumours and press commentary surrounding the club at the moment is very unhelpful, in my opinion. What has happened has happened, and it's time for swift, decisive action from many at the club. The Board have made a start by announcing that McLeish is to stay on as manager. Whether you approve of him or not, at least it gives us stability at a critical time, which personally I think is a good thing. But they now need to make some firm, unambiguous statements about the financial health of the club and how they plan to manage the obvious challenge of ensuring that the club does not slide into serious financial trouble whilst at the same time maintaining a realistic challenge next season. This is vital for confidence at every level, not least for supporters who are right now trying to decide whether to renew season tickets next season (including me, as it happens). The manager also needs to act decisively and quickly regarding player contracts and who he intends to keep or release. The new season will be upon us before you know it and rebuilding must start immediately. If I were the manager, I would want to know by the end of this week who wants to stay and who wants to go. Those that he plans to release or who say they want to go should be made available immediately and the budgets for player recruitment sorted out quickly. At the moment, we would probably still be seen by many as strong contenders for promotion next season, we need to get players on board quickly before any more negative talk starts to weaken our position. West Brom have already signed a player from Ipswich, which indicates there is no time to lose. We need younger, bigger and quicker players and we need to get on with it. And we supporters probably need to show our commitment too. The sooner we send a signal to the club that we are still with them, by buying our season tickets for next season, the sooner the Board will understand that there is plenty to be positive about and that the investment required to rebuild the team will not be wasted. So, that's made my mind up, I'd better get on and renew my tickets.... |

Anyone that makes Kevin Philip-esque comments to the media would be immediately put on the transfer list if I was manager! |

Totally agree. We are going to have to think strategically, and quickly. The club needs to be decisive and not leave any ambiguity as to what their vision is for the future. Here's hoping. |

Haha, he said on the radio that he thought Birmingham City were in big trouble, etc etc. Very unprofessional, smacked of sour grapes. |
