Why dont we have a mini midlands/local 'tour'.

Ignore wba, wolves, vile etc and concentrate on the lower league local teams. To my eyes, there are lots of positives to be taken and very little to lose/risk

1. It will be quick and easy to organise as being local the logistics will be easier

2. cost will be minimum to us, even including basic things like travel to the games/petrol will be less than going all round the country/abroad

3. it can help our image in the local area and we can attract ourselves to kids in our local catchment areas - as a basic pr exercise we could also let the teams keep all/most of the gate receipts to help our local little clubs which ca only be a good thing - without these smaller clubs there is no room for the big boys - we could even turn it into an annual mini tournament

4. It will give us a god chance to scout talent - it was only 3 years ago scotty d was on loan to northern premier league outfil hendsford town and redditch united. Im not saying we will get players (or even a player) of his quality but there is some decent young british talent waiting to be found - we tried the 'legends' the players who are old and bloated and only interested in a plast paycheck, lets get some pacey young hungry blood in

5. it can help us build good working relationships with local clubs where we can send youngster on loan to get game time etc

6.It will give a greater scope fr trying out different line ups and formations before the competative season begins

7. It will be a good chance to bleed our promising youngsters into the squad

8. nice easy run out for those like fadds and zig (if still with us) coming back from injury

9. there are a wealth of clubs to chose from - non league to lower leagues - such as walsall, notts county, shrewsbury, hereford, burton, kiddermister etc

thoughts?

I think we should look at playing some Scottish Prem teams or maybe German teams or a similar standard to us.. the Champ is a hard league and the last thing we want is easy warm up games and then we end up facing someone like leeds in the first match away and get battered...

Can't see us travelling abroad this year due to the financial problems. A local tournament would be the best option and could help us scout some young talent.

Im sure I couldget a nice discount at the b&b I stayed at last time **thumbup ...but there are not as much positives than keeping it local

the problem with going aborad is other leagues have a few decent top couple of clubs - like in italy, germany, spain etc but their lower leagues are not as competative as ours so we will not be able ot go elsewhere and experience 'english chamionship quality clubs' so if we are going to play lower league quality clubs lets do it local

The benefits of taking the first team squad on a foreign tour far out weight any positives there is for a local mini tournmanet (which I cant see many)

Most importantly the focus will be on fitness, the management have a control on the players diet for a week or two, its good for group bonding and any new signings will get the chance to introduce themselves fully to the squad.

Also, most importantly it takes the players away from their home environment and hangers on. Which I'm sure they have quite a few of being young and rich.

all of those factors could be handled locally too - when they go abroad they stay together in a hotel and live together, bond etc - the same could be done here but without the lost days/time travelling - go to a hotel out in the countryside somewhereaway fom the hangers on and pubs clubs wives and girlfriends

Temptation would be too strong for a young man bored and stuck in a hotel in England to go out and meet his mates etc. Place restrictions here and they're going to break them.

Countryside hotels are expensive, its cheaper on the continent and there's the better weather. There has to be some perks to being a footballer.

Its a non starter.

What teams were you suggesting they play?

If we want them to be bonding send them to a B&B for the weekend or even better go on a camping trip. Keep the costs down.

Hahaha camping trip in England get real, it will be pi55ing down with rain and they'll all say forget this I'm going home to the misses with my new iPad and BMW. You couldn't get a sunday league team to go away in England they all go to Spain etc etc with money from fines at end of season and yup expect championship contenders to sleep in the woods, haha not going to work. Send them far away to a secluded holiday spot 3 days on the beer get to know each other then let's get to work!
