With relegation, it seems the likes of Foster, Dann, Johnson, Zigic, Jerome, McFadden, Gardner, Beausejour, Ridge, Davies and the rest will be subject to speculation and "interests" from half the league over the next few months.

If you could chose any 2 players to stay, and let the board sell some of the rest to fill the financial gap, who would they be and why?

My choice also; although I wouldn't argue with Dann and Gardner.

Foster and Zigic.

We need an established keeper between the sticks and we need someone of Zigic's quality to score the goals.

Yes, Johnson and Dann are fantastic defenders but they can be replaced - and if Davies continues as he finished on Sunday then that's one spot filled.

Gardner, for me, is vastly over-rated. He scores the odd long shot, but only after 6 or 7 have gone over the bar or wide. He's also a hot-head and a liability. He's diving a fair bit of late and blatantly punched Defoe in the face on Sunday.

Jerome isn't a striker, though he isn't much else. His first touch is **** poor and his finishing is woeful. McFadden isn't a winger and he's not a striker, has weaknesses that render him useless in both positions.

Not many agree with you as most have Gardner as one of their choices.

Agreed he's overrated (it's been weeks since he put in a good solid tackle for us; what happened to the Gardner of 2010?). But that is natural since he's a Bluenose born and bred. He will always be a favourite. And for that reason we must keep him. We need all the positive energy we can get next season and he will provide a lot of it just by still being here.

Also, you rightly point out that he misses a lot more long shots than he scores. But at least when he has a go there is a chance of the ball going in the net. Contrary to what McLeish may believe, you have to win games to be successful, you have to score goals to win games, and you have to shoot to score goals.

Barry Ferguson is IMO just as overrated (if not more so).

Agree with Foster and Gardner

You have to remember the league we are in Foster will be a real asset and points winner.

Gardner not because he is by any means the best, I just think he will be excellent in the championship, he will get goals from midfield and will drive the club on when needed, box to box.

I think Zigic would sink in the CC, he would not like the CC cloggers round him and would spend a season on the treatment table.

RJ and Dann would miss out because they do not want to be there so bye bye

For me its Gardner and Foster. Gardner is a bluenose, and Foster says he is happy in the area, and wants to stay. Unlike Johnson and Dann who will eventually leave, if we get up and stay up, Gardner and Foster could see out the rest of their careers with us. They could both become club legends; they are already firm crowd favourites after just one season.

Gardner's goals and driving force will be important and Foster will win us 20 points. Eck has an eye for a defender so can replace Dann and Johnson IMO. As much i LOVE ziggy he's crocked and the wrong side of 30 :(

The most important things are not allowing any of them to go on the cheap, and if there is an exodus, make it happen with plenty of time to bring in quality replacements (instead of panic buys/loans) because there will be quality replacements to be had.

Of the players likely to attract the most interest from premier league clubs (Foster, Dann, and Johnson), I'd most want to keep hold of Foster and Dann.

The good news is that even if all three were to leave, there'd be plenty of options for Blues to consider...

GK: Keiren Westwood on a free or Lee Camp
CB: Wes Morgan, Richard Wood, Jack Hobbs, Patrick Kisnorbo, Ashley Williams (should Swansea fail to win promotion), and there are many others out there... I trust AMc to be able to deal with this area of the team.

I'd expect Gardner to want to stay and help get us back up.

I'd also expect Ferguson to stay now that AMc will be kept on.

I'd like for Faddy and Ziga to stay, but both will probably go.

Definitely want Carr to stay too, but if he were to leave we should go for Kyle Naughton, Chris Gunter, or Nathaniel Clyne (though he'll attract premier league interest).

If Ridgewell leaves, loan one of the Chelsea left-backs (Ryan Bertrand or Patricks van Aanholt).

Sorry that this turned into a post that should be in transfer chat. **thumbup

I would be worried if we kept only two!

But Foster and Gardner would be the two, at a push.
