So, at one time or another the manager, board and players have been blamed for our relegation. Is it not time we took a look at ourselves? The amount of times the stadium announcer 'asked / begged' us to create a good atmosphere and did we? - NO. The first 2 or so seasons when we were back in the BPL the atmosphere was electric, I was so proud to be a part of it. Nowadays we often get out-sung by 2000 +/- away fans. In all honesty I think the atmosphere in the last 1 or 2 years (considering we finished 9th last year and won the CC) has been nothing short of drastic. Furthermore I truly believe if we had created half of what the atmosphere was like in 2002/03/04 we would have got at least 3 more points over the course of the season. Your thoughts? KRO |

The team did not play the type of football to excite the fans at all times. At some games there was a great atmosphere but at others there was barely any due to the team we were playing and the tactics we were using. |

Is this a wind-up to get me going? Totally on subject...............the answer is the boring football served up by McLeish. Hardly exciting is it? That is why the fans make no noise. To take it a stage further it is the reason why away fans get 5,000ish seats nowadays, fans are voting with their feet. Dire football not exciting those in the ground to sing, dire football responsible for fewer and fewer bluenoses in the ground. McLeish is your problem. But hey, 2 relegations in 3 years - legendary according to some. |

I personally feel that because everyones expectations have risen since those first few years in the prem, that the atmosphere has suffered as a consequence. Another major reason is the style of football we play and the results we get really don't give much for the fans to sing about. If you look at our performances which have been good this season, like the cup games, the atmosphere was like it was back in the old prem days. The fans have try'd to get behind the players and Mcliesh and have really jeered them on, like the wolves and fulham games, but the players and manager just seemed to lack any desire, passion and we seem to just look lost when we get into the last third. Tbh, i don't blame the fans. I think the players and manager are to blame for our 2nd relegation in 3 years. :kro: |

Its a bit 'chicken and egg' isn't it. I don't want to get in to the McCleish thing, but surely it stands to reason that cautious football is going to be received more quietly than more positive football. There have been times when the fans have made a difference, but there have also been times when despite the crowd being voracious they have been quickly quietened by watching the team play within themselves. You're absolutely right about the atmosphere in those two first seasons all those years ago, but at that point we had Savage all over the pitch getting in faces, Horsfield making a nuisance of himself and other players really 'up' for the challenge. We saw that change when Bruce brought in older players with less pace and energy, and its not really changed since then. |

The fan's what? What is belonging to the fan? In relation to the OP, you can't blame football fans for not turning up at St.Andrew's when they've either got the choice of spending a large chunk of their weekly wage on either watching incredibly boring football at St.Andrews on Saturday, or putting food on the table for your family and children for the coming week. A combination of lower ticket prices and more exciting football and we'd see people come back. |

Agreed - the brand of football was dire in my aspects. We are set up to keep clean sheets and get the odd goal here and there - when you can't keep a clean sheet, that tactic fails miserably. So yes, McLeish has to be held accountable for that. However, can we, as fans, not be held accountable for our sing (no more than one song) when we're winning mentality? Yes, the majority of times it is up to players to get us going - although, when we see the team struggling (as they did) can we not get THEM going? Yes they are paid huge amounts of money - but when all is said and done they are all human beings who need encouragement from all sides too. It clearly is not the fans fault for our relegation. However, in my opinion, I think we have to at least shoulder some of the blame. No SHA007, this wasn't aimed at winding you up - I don't even know who you are!? |

My post wasn't directly aimed at you. It was an ironic post in light of being accused of hijacking threads into anti-McLeish and then your opening post is an open goal for me. |
