Running Microsoft Security Essentials and today it is giving me my first ever warning on this Forum.
Never had a problem with this forum before.

Is anyone one else getting it?

Is it related to some advert or other?

I also use Microsoft Security Essentials but haven't had the message. Were you in a particular thread when the message popped up?

No, I've not had the alert either. As Mo said, can you let us know which thread you were looking at, please?

I've just got it.

Also using MSE.

Silly Game thread. It could be one of the inserts / pictures, rather than an advert.

Not seen it on other threads yet, but twice on Silly Game. When I opened it and again when I posted.

If I see it elsewhere I'll come back and edit.

Edit:
I've done about a dozen or so threads, well I mean opened them, and I only get the MSE alert on the Silly Game thread.

That's a good point, mr

A tecchie on another site told me that when you upload pictures off photobucket or Image Shack, hackers target the pictures and start hotlinking them at random.....this practise of hotlinking sometimes contains viruses or malicious software and these hackers try to disrupt certain sites

Of course you never get a warning on somewhere like photobucket .....thousands or even millions of people worldwide post pictures and graphic designs on there and users are free to upload wahtever they want

Those of us who play The Silly Game all use pics and have been doing so for several months now (except for Bart I think) so maybe we should all refrain from posting pics on there

It's a Silly Game anyway,,,,,,,,who started it ??

Edit - midland ......that was just friendly sarcasm by the way :fishing:

Thanks for alerting us to which thread it is. Hopefully one of the more technically minded of the admin team will now be able to find out what is happening.

In the meantime, I will move the thread on a temporary basis, just in case there is a virus present.

They're working on it , mate

But put it this way no-one would obviously do it intentionally

Some hackers out there use pictures to attach mailicious stuff, that kind of thing

Tne victims of it don't even know it's going on

If it is one of those pics, I certainly hope it ain't one of mine.

Many visits, it's the only place I post.

Anyone remember how many posts we had ?

Hopefully, if it's safe to do so, it will be restored as soon as one of the more technically minded mods has had a chance to look at it. However, as it is a very long thread, it might take too long.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. **thumbup

If it's only just started happening then it must be one of the pics in the latest posts. I've clicked into the last 2 pages and not got a virus warning. Maybe Hirsty will get chance to have a look at it for us.

I've just installed MSE, and checked back over 20 pages - no report of any threat.

Just wondering now.

Did we have open tabs/windows to other forums or sites when it came up ?
I can't remember :banghead:

And I can't remember what thread I was on either.
But there is a fair amount of links on Silly Game, also on the Numbers game.

I know I got the warning thing, which is why I reported it straightaway.

I'll go with Hirsts though, if it's not on back pages, then perhaps it's from some other thread? Or maybe some other open Window/Tab - can that happen?

I replied with details in the Silly Game thread:

http://bcfcforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73973&st=0&#last

I took a screen shot, but could do nothing with it. :boohoo:

But I could read the details.

It seems to be on the last page only.

But why isn't anyone else getting it?

Are your data banks upto date with MSE.

Hirsty just installed it, so his must be upto date.

Weirdo.

I got it yesterday - but not in the Silly Games thread. I got it when I went into the Next Model thread in Gen Chat. And yet I had been in and out of that thread several times, no further posts had been added and nobody else got the warning. But it wasn't a warning from my Microsoft Security Essentials - it seemed to be a google type warning. And it referred me to a virus on the KUMB website not on this website. So what we are now wondering is if it is a pop-up from an advertisement.

We are looking into it but we need people to watch out for it and let us know if it comes up for them, what it says, what thread they were in at the time and, if possible, to take a screen shot.

In the meantime, we believe this is a perfectly harmless pop-up.
