So CG did not have a relegation wage decrease clause in his contract, whose to blame? The board? Mcrat?

It seems obvious that the CG was pushed out of the club for that reason without a thought for the fans and I think its due to the boards poor management skills and ultimately this will potentially cost us our club's future....

Where is the proof of each played having or not having on clause on docking wages? I don't see the evidence so do not believe all this. I'm not saaying they don't because they probably do, but until there is proof for individual contracts I'm not saying anything.

Eh? He wasn't forced anywhere. And actually hinted toward wanting an improved contract.

Our club wont go anywhere, look at pompey, Southampton, Sheff Weds, Leeds etc they are all still ticking over.

Its been pretty well documented CG was he only player without such a clause irrespective of him wanting more money which I think he was worth. I actually think he would have been captain this year...

Afterall poor Craig had his family to think about! Not once did he say I want to stay at Blues even though we got relegated. I am so disappointed in him. I don't usually feel like this, but fickle is a mild word for "our Craig". Not fit to lick the Horses boots. Shame on you Craig. This is not poor management, its very poor form from a greedy footballer. Bring on the Championship and players who want to play for Blues whatever our fate, not just the good time boys.

I don't think he will be missed. Move on. How he could ever be considered a legend with just over a years service to the club is beyond me.

I actually think its a bit of both.

They agreed his contract and the lack of a relegation clause.

he was happy and so were they. then the worst thing happened the club got relegated and the lack of a relegation clatuse was a big issue as they could not afford his £20k a week wages. So he had to be sold. I wonder did they attempt to keep him by offering him a new less pay contract ?

Did they have the confidence in their abilities ask him to stay for at least a season in order to help the club to promotion.?

Maybe Gardner saw where the club was going and decided it would be best to get out

Lets face it its not going to be pleasent over the next few weeks and months is it.
it seems a lot of the players will be put in the exact same position Gardner was are we going to lay the blame soley at their feet as well or will the board come under some scrutiny for their part?

When Dann, Johnson, Foster, Jerome etc all go - - will you start a thread asking whose fault it is ?

The reason is relegation. A loss of Prem money to pay Prem wages.

As others have said, Craig Gardner was reported as being the only player with a contract that kept him on Premier wages if we got relegated. He dare not dispute that, because with someone like Panny around ( or Sullivan in the past) his contract would have been posted instantly.
:LMAO:

On top of that -- AFTER he signed for Sunderland he explained in an interview that the club didn't offer him an increased contract. All his team mates were on 50% reduced wages on relegation, and Craig was upset because we didn't offer to INCREASE his wages????

The mind boggles.

Your thread title.

Craig was not pushed, he was the first one to run crying to the exit door.
He didn't say it was ambition to get into the England Squad by remaining in the Premier - - NO - - he said he had a family to consider. Then when it came out that he was still on maximum Premier wages he says that we didn't offer to increase his money.

On relegation?

You say that he was forced out because of a lack of management skill - - by the board.

The skill is keeping players who want to play for blues.

With regard to Craig, they have been spot on.

His strop after being subbed in the Cup Final followed by the one during the Chelsea game over not being able to take a penalty - even though Larsson had taken and scored his previous spot kicks - showed me enough that Gardner was becoming Billy Big Time and wanting to be the centre of attention and focal point of everything. Fine if you're Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney. Not so fine when you're nowhere near as good as those two.

He gave the club a decent year's service, but it's hardly a coincidence that he came into the side when the unbeaten run had come to an end and was a constant in a side that didn't really create anything for the forwards from midfield. Mostly because he was just shooting all the time.

Well seen mate.

**thumbup

I am loathe to agree with Parti, but he put his head on the block as being critical of Craig - months ago.
Long before this hysteria about selling a bluenose arose.

Parti determined, sliced up and delivered a rational objective examiation of Craig' s perfomances for us.

He got howled at, flamed, abused - - but he held his powder didn't he ?

Craig has proved Parti right.imo

God Help the Mackems **thumbup
He's goimg to be descibed as an ex-Birminhham player each time fouls or gets sent off.

Shame we could't increase his wages after he helped us get rlegated.

Being a Villa fan, it was bad enough for him playing for us.
Being a Villa fan AND a Premier League class player it was nigh on impossible for him to play for us.

GET OVER HIM EVERYBODY - HE'S A VILER AND HE CONNED MOST OF YOU.

...here's his quote from 2007..............
"I am a Villa fan through and through, I came through the ranks here and nothing can get better than playing for the club you have always supported."
