I can understand the club getting rid of Andy Watson but why on earth is our Head of the Commercial Dept leaving at a time whe we have no shirt sponsor and when we are about to launch the new kit???

The Commercial Manager probably wasn't doing a great job, considering we haven't sealed any deals yet. Who knows? Could have been personal reasons, could have been anything!

I balame the Board for "sacking" Dunford last year. He was the only one with board-level experience of English business and football business.

That was strange, Lowds. Was there ever a reason given for the departure of Dunford? He was such an experienced and impressive bloke - I was shocked when he left.

It coincided with the Seymour ... problems and it was discussed that he'd dropped a bo**ock over it. Just as likely is that he fell out with PP CY over business methods and style. Confidentiality agreement will mean we'll never know

I don't know. I haven't read anything as to why he left.

Think you have just answered your own question. Shirt sponsorship deal should have been completed the day we beat west ham to book our place at Wembley. That win was shown live in 137 countries.
as an example Man get £25 million PER YEAR off NIKE and £20 mill per year off AON!!

F&C alledgedly paid us £650K for three seasons no details of xtep. Believe me if it had of been big numbers they would have splashed it all over the papers!!

In terms of commercial appointments you can read what you like in terms of 'mutual consent' but it generally means the consent was predominantly one way.

Commerical roles tend to be results orientated, the rewards are good for success but the role can be short-lived if there is no delivery. I think we can all read in to the situation what has happened.

In terms of Dunford, my understanding was that the board were unhappy with the way he handled legal matters with the previous owners.

Did you try and get a home kit betwen Christmas and the end of last season. Did you try and get some Carling cup merchandise before the final. Did you attend the Big City event which was so undersold it was emabrrassing. Just a few of the things that should have been managed better by the Comercial department.

That kevin smith was a young kid recruited from Southampton, to be fair to him he was quite enthsiastic but we probably should have recruited a number two from a top six club.
The big city event raised a load of dosh so well done to him for that shirts and shop merchandise has been generally useless! Not sure if that was down to him or kit suppliers.
Someone put some great graphics up the other day which showed No commercial growth in five years at club!!
Bayern Munich raise more actual money from commercial activities than any club in Europe! Lets find out what they do and try in some small way to copy it!

The X-tep deal is worth £7 million over 5 years.

We've always knowingly/unknowingly undersold that patch on our shirts. The fact that we have annoys me as I'd have preferred we turn down the shirt sponsor and have a no-sponsored shirt. I think, or the impression that I get, is that PP is income maximising and looking for us getting market value for the space on our shirts, £650k is probably about what one trader at F&C were taking home in the annual bonus.

My thoughts on that, purely on speculation, is that he was treading on Pannu's toes... Pannu wanted a more active role in negotiations and Dunford didnt like it.

Agreed. Long overdue if you ask me. Blues have remained in the dark ages in terms of the commercial/marketing side of the business.

I heard that deal changed after we went down.

Dunford resigned after 6 months and is still out of work over a year later. No other clubs like Blackburn, Hull Cardiff etc who have all saught new CEOs or MDs have actually beaten a path to his door and signed him up.

As beegee suggested, perhaps one should consider the Seymour Pearce debacle (his remitt) and Pannu had to come in and clear up the mess.

A man in a blazer with a rep - but no substance imo.

Dave Watson is still with Blues at the moment, and I too hope that remains the state of affairs...

"Hughton has overseen training himself and has been very much hands on since Blues reported back.

Yesterday, when the media were allowed in at Wast Hills for filming and interviewing, Blues fitness coach and sports science expert Nick Davies devised a series of

drills for the squad, with Hughton the guiding hand.

Andy Watson and Peter Grant, Alex McLeish’s first team coaches, were not on the training pitches and had no involvement.

The goalkeepers were elsewhere on site under the guidance of Dave Watson, who remains on Hughton’s team.

Maik Taylor trained with him, Ben Foster, Colin Doyle and Jack Butland.

Despite his release, Taylor is working out with Blues until he gets fixed up with a new club."

I'm sure we had a Plymouth fan warning us about him when he was first appointed to the board. I guess he was right.

Yes. I vaguely remember that Park Drive.

Dunford went from Derby to Everton in a lateral type transfer of employer.
Just a suit type job. Low down the food chain.

We all know how expansive Everton are with money and wages :LMAO:

At Everton he spent five years climbing up the sticky pole as those above him walked out or resigned. When Kenwright took over Dunford was first out the door.(2004)
His next stint at Plymouth was a job too far for him - which explains why he isn't well respected by them.

I hardly think that he was head-hunted by the incoming Blues ownership. More like he impressed with a CV of 5 years at Everton in his application, and our board in their joint innocence thought they'd got a jewel. :D

He did a fan meeting once where he answered questions ( pre-registered) that he could have phoned in. No follow up, no discussion. That's when I had second thoughts about him. 5 years at Everton had impressed me - until I started asking toffee fans etc.

Waste of Space could be an adjective he helped create.

Yet another example of over-enthusiatic, innocent and naive new owners being taken to the cleaners.

Thank God for Pannu. The first person on this board, to learn that we have people like Sullivan and Dunford, each end of the spectrum, in football. All self-seeking in their own ways.

Blues new board have suffered from their innocence and trust.
From Sullivan/Gold/Brady to Dunford to Alex/Montgomery.

Let's hope things change now.
