Tatts in today's Birmingham Mail says that Hughton will be trying to bring in Calderwood as assistant manager once the details of his departure from Hibs have been finalised.

CH knows the financial problems BCFC have so if he thinks he will add value to the coaching staff who are we to argue...he knows a lot more than we the fans do :applause:

Didn't work out at Hibernian for him but I would heartily welcome him as CH's assistant

Some guys are just cut out to be excellent Number Two's

Why not? Every good team needs a good defence. Look what's happened to Arsenal in recent months.

Colin Calderwood is expected to be named as Birmingham City’s assistant manager within the next few days, STV has learned.

The former Hibernian boss, who was sacked after just a year in charge at Easter Road, is expected to join Chris Hughton’s side after taking in the Blues’ 2-1 win over Burnley last night.

The former Scotland defender worked with Hughton at Newcastle United and was linked to the post in the summer, but the 46-year-old stayed with the Leith side before being sacked on November 6.

Calderwood, who previously held managerial positions at Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest, won only 12 of his 49 games in charge of the capital club.

During his tenure, Hibs were knocked out last season’s Scottish Cup by then Second Division side Ayr United in a replay at Somerset Park.

Birmingham currently sit in eighth place in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last season under Alex McLeish.

City remain in the Europa League after winning last season’s Carling Cup and lie in second place in Group H. The Blues are level on points with Club Brugge and Braga, having won seven points from four games

Let's keep an eye on our team formations. I hope we don't take a step towards the dark ages again and dispense with the two wide players.....but there again there could be a much needed change in centre midfield.

This is my big worry with bringing in Calderwood. Hughton may know him and be happy working with him, but the Hibs fans didn't seem to rate him at all.

There are two references to the director's box in the Garrison Lane stand. What's that all about?

Forest fans hated him as much as I hated McLeish. He was bad at Forest, playing negative and dross football. Forest fans were disappointed when they were promoted from League One - as it meant he wouldn't be sacked. However he didn't last long thereafter.

mmm I am not happy. I will be watching closely.

The fact is Calderwood was the manager of Forest and picked the teams etc.

Hughton's still manager here and will pick the team as HE sees fit, not his assistant.

Lowdham doesn't need relatives in Nottingham, he's already there:

Lowdham is a village in Nottinghamshire between Nottingham and Southwell.
