I think a lot of us loved Owen Hargreaves after that World Cup, and he's got an amusing German accent, but this is never happening.

Why not? A Prem Club may not want to take the chance on him, we offer him a one-year deal in the Champ, if he believes in himself he can use us as a stepping stone to a better club, because theres no doubt when fit he is a top 8 player.

If Hargreaves would consider a pay to play deal then there would still be 15 or so teams in the prem who would be ahead of us in trying to sign him.
Against Portugal in 2006 after that **** `SHREK` got sent off he was Fantabbydosy!
(respect to acjboyle)

The key words.." when fit". He never is ; Sir Alex is no fool, that's why he is getting rid. It's a waste of time, even on a pay as you go deal. Every member of the squad has to be ready to play when selected, and we don't want the physio spending hours every week on a lost cause.

I thought he might have been the sort of player that we might have been after if we had stayed up.

in all seriousness far too good for us and this league

Owen Hargreaves' YouTube workout videos look to have earned him the chance to resurrect his career - with his old England boss Sven Goran Eriksson at Leicester.

Eriksson is ready to offer free agent Hargreaves the chance to spearhead his Premier League dream, as he prepares to take his summer outlay towards the £16million mark.

The Swede wants to hold talks with Hargreaves after his exit from Manchester United earlier this year after playing only a handful of minutes in two injury-hit seasons, and will make him the Foxes' best-paid player if he can strike a deal.

It comes as Eriksson prepares to smash the club's transfer record with a £5.5m swoop for Reading defender Matt Mills and make a FOURTH bid, this one of £4.5m, for Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard - a staggering statement of intent from Leicester’s mega-rich Thai owners.

Injury-ravaged Hargreaves - who was given his England debut by Eriksson in 2001 - made headlines earlier this week by posting YouTube clips of his workouts in a bid to earn himself a place at a new club.

“I saw his videos," admitted Eriksson, "and if he wants to come here I will open the door and stand and wait for him in the door!

“He’s been very unlucky in recent years, but if he’s close to what he was, he is a fantastic football player.

“I haven’t spoken to him for a while - maybe I should.

"It’s difficult to know what he wants to do when he’s been away for a long time.”

Eriksson will also step up his bid to land Maynard, 25, after having a £4m offer rejected by the Robins on Wednesday.

Leicester have also left Premier League side Wolves trailing in the spending stakes after agreeing a deal with Mills that will see the centre-half pocket £23,000 a week.

The swoop for Mills smashes their previous club record of £5.3m for Foxes flop Ade Akinbiyi - cruelly branded Ade ‘Akinbadbuy’ - in 2000.

Eriksson has already splashed £3.25m on Kasper Schmeichel, Sean St Ledger and Lee Peltier, while David Nugent and Neil Danns have agreed massive salaries after joining on free transfers.

It is all a far cry from Eriksson’s doomed spell at Notts County, when he was promised untold riches to take the club to the Premier League but left after just seven months.

He said: “The owners here really mean it, they really want the Premier League. We all do. It’s completely different to Notts County. Here they have promised and delivered, which is very good.

“Have the owners said, 'That’s enough spending?' No, not yet!

"This club will soon be there [the Premier League], I’m quite sure of that. The way the owner is acting, that is where we are going.

“Of course, there is pressure, but it’s about promotion - it’s not the target to be in the middle of the league.

“I don’t know if we are the favourites, but you have to remember that it’s a very tough league.

"But I know what pressure is about, we are there to be shot at. Teams will want to beat us.”

I remember the last time we were in the Championship all the talk was about QPR. I'm not worried about them at all!
