Thought this was quite interesting, the last time we came up from the Championship in 08/09 we spent absolutely zero in transfers apart from Marcus Bent for 1m (and a fiver on Fahey) which was offset by 3.5m in sales. So the club was 2.5m up. The whole squad was padded out with loans and free transfers.
I can't see much difference then than now, the only major factor being we have spent more on players that will go for bigger fees to balance the books. We have to offset a bigger expenditure and will make a further profit on the likes of Dann who's value has upped. The squad around the major player sales that are likely to stay are equal if not better than last time around.

Way off figures
this is the business we did pre season 08/09
The last champ season we sold: Muamba - 5mil Kapo - 2.5mil aluko 50k and forse/de ridder for free
therefore we made £7,550,000
We bought: bent - 1mil shroot - 3k carr, phillips, carsley - 0
therefore we spent £1,000,300
Obviously fahey etc not included as im basing it on preseason so to say we offset by 3.5 mil sales is way off...we got more than that for muamba alone

Ok, we were far more in the black and still spent virtually nowt. Yet with wages we still managed to come out of it something like 4m down.

Like I said last week ,When we have our Assistant manager in place and we BUY our first player then I will be happier, But my guess we may be waiting on a sale or 2 before that happens, Other wise things are going along nicely, A few freebies in ,we expected that.So no need for any panic just yet. Yes it would be lovely to go out and buy all the players we need in one week ,but thats not how it works in football.
