I wonder who will anchor the midfield now then, we wont find a player better than Ferguson at controlling possession in front of the back four.

Is Gomis an anchor type player ?

From the qualities he said himself he has got, that is what it sounds like.

Hope Barry will get a good reaction from the fans on his return with blackpool this coming season, as he did us well during his time here.

I think he was a massive player for us and would have been excellent for mutch to play alongside...

Guess his wages were too high and would not take a cut.. blackpool have got a bargin there....

Seems a very bad deal for Brum. Would have thought him to be worth much more!

As reported in the Birmingham Evening Mail:

Birmingham City expect the transfer of Barry Ferguson to Championship rivals Blackpool to be completed today.

A fee of around £600,000 has been settled between the clubs and the midfielder is also reported to have agreed personal terms with the Bloomfield Road outfit

I think that's about right as his age and wages are both quite high. KRO!

I think we could have got £2 million for him at least.

Didn't he come on a free? If so, then the 600k fee has paid off a chunk of his time here!

No we paid £1m for him - would have thought he would have been worth keeping with his experience for the last year of his contract. His experience could have been invaluable next season. We signed alot of experienced players and a mix of younger loans when we last got promoted and it looks like Blackpool are looking to emulate this. Good solid signing for Blackpool. Not too sure who we can get to replace for the money we have got for him. Shame to see the cup final team being broken up.

Barry Ferguson came home last night after watching his beloved Rangers beat his prospective new team Blackpool. :)

The deal isn't finalised yet by the way. I expect it will be though very soon.

£600,000! Seasiders are getting a bargain! Mind you, so did Blues when we gave him to you for a mere £1m!

He was a great player for us (especially first season) and is one of the best central midfielders I've seen at the club over the past 20 years. However, I think the reasons he came to us where:

a.) Have another go at the Premier League
b.) Work with McLeish again

He can't get either of those at Blues anymore so I think its best for all if he moves on as I could see an unhappy Ferguson not being the kind of character you want in the dressing room. Much better to try to develop the talents of Jordan Mutch IMO.

£600k isn't much, as is a good buy for Blackpool, but I think the fact we recouped money for a 33 year old with 1 year left on his contract who wanted out if decent enough. Now lets offer it for someone like Kilgallon.

That seems fair. He wasn't that great last season, but he leaves with my best wishes and I'll applaud him when he returns.

If Ferguson was still a grade A player, then I would have expected a host of Premier League clubs in the North of the country to have bid for him. They didn't.

The fact is a club no better or worse than ourselves offered him a deal and he took it.

He has been a very good player, however if he still had a great deal to offer then I feel he would have been snapped by a team, and this is meant with no disrespect, better than that of Blackpool.

Good luck Barry, I think we saw the best of you in your time with us. A good deal done I think.

But what I can't understand, is that in the Premier league, Blackpool didn't pay anywhere near that sort of money. Now they have been relegated, they can ??

Nope, he'll be taking a wage cut no doubt, but doesnt have the hassle of having to travel from here to Scotland and back I guess...might also have hefty bonuses for promotion/goals etc

How does a 4 hour drive (195miles) from Blackpool compare with a 1 hour flight from Birmingham?
It's all about the money! < <

Was glad to hear via Talksport that Espanyol had ended their interest in Michel, citing the reason as Birmingham wanting to re-coup more than the £1m offered.

Would be great if Hughton could rejuvinate Michel, he's a tidy player and could do a job as a holding midfielder that can look to receive a pass and spray it about whilst shielding the defence.

Gomis is supposed to have decent feet too for a combative midfielder, so maybe he's the player to fill Barry's shoes?

It's a tall order either way.

Agree with all of this. I thought Barry was absolutely magnificent the season before last, and probably produced one of the best seasons of football I have ever seen by a Blues player.

Good luck Barry - you will not be forgotten by me.
