Great buy for only 1m, but let's get real he's 33 and doesn't fit with the style of play were going for next year. Not happy he's gone but not overly fussed either. If he wants to go good luck to him but he's not what blues need right now some young attacking minded midfielder would be a very welcome change. I'd prefer us to loose a game 5-4 than watch a boring 0-0 or even 1-0 win with 75 mins of defending in honesty, football is supposed to be a form of entertainment and with the last two managers we have lost a lot of that let's get back to attacking football and have some fun again!

Seriously, 33 years old, no engine, passes sideways, last year of contract & a transfer fee of 600k+ it's a no brainer. Thanks Baz, enjoy the chav capital of the UK.

Come back to this thread in six months time and we will see how unhappy you are then.

Ferguson was a class act who will shine in the Championship. Time will tell what style of play we'll play next year (McLeish always talked about getting the ball down and playing it) but I don't see why Ferguson wouldn't fit in with it if it turns out to be an expansive, free-flowing attack-fest: someone needs to pull the strings and keep discipline in the middle.

As an aside, while it will be nice to see a change in our philosophy I've never agreed that 'football is supposed to be a form of entertainment'. It's supposed to be a sporting contest; anything other than that is Sky-driven waffle. It's nice when it's entertaining but as the criteria differs from fan to fan I'm not sure football can win that battle without compromising its principles.

I think he's just had his last best year in football at Birmingham. Now, he's just another old head, who won't do anything special as you expect him to. Past his prime, now and old timer, to be honest he's not all that - when his performances ultimately didn't save us from all the goals we leaked or any attacking threat. We could do with a replacement. Goodbye, Barry.

An absolute talisman his first season, and great for the first half of last season - intermittently decent after that, the Final obviously being a particularly fine performance. But he was playing hurt the second half of the year, and I think he would have been tops in the Championship, under Hughton.

See ya Baz, and best of luck for the future.

FERGIE MAKES BLACKPOOL SWITCH

Barry Ferguson is Blackpool-bound

Midfielder Barry Ferguson has today left Blues to join fellow npower Championship side Blackpool.

The 33-year-old has joined the Seasiders on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee and will now link up with former Blues striker Kevin Phillips, who made the switch to Bloomfield Road earlier this summer.

The former Scotland international, who had 12 months left on his contract, leaves Blues after a two-year spell at the club.

During his time at St. Andrew's Ferguson made 83 appearances and scored two goals.

He was a key performer in his first season at Blues, when his displays saw him rewarded with the Players' Player of the Year Award for 2009/10.

A member of the 2011 Carling Cup winning side, he missed a chunk of the 2010/11 campaign with broken ribs.

New guessing game will the Blues website give thanks and good wishes to Barry for his service to the club or not

Gardener did

Johnson didn't

Ferguson didn't either

Also says "he missed a chunk of the 2010/11 campaign with broken ribs" (I made it 2 games) a grossly unfair comment, I wonder how many players in our squad last season would have gone through what he did (injection wise), just to carry on playing for Blues.

Great player for the club, always ready to roll his sleeves up & get stuck in. IMO he is exactly the sort of experienced player we need to support some of the younger lads to help get us out out of the Championship, as Lee Carsley did couple of years ago.

Barry, thank you for what you gave us, you'll be sadly missed.

Barry played well for the first half of last season but i felt he really didn't 'drive' the team forward to try and win a game.

Still good luck to him, a chamghe of scenery/style of play will probably suit all concerned

ICWT

Hate that gardener fella!!

I'm really disappointed that McLeish didn't take him to Villa. :)
