I for one hate all of the resources that are wasted by each plitical party just for political battles/gains rather than truly working for the public. In the U.S., we only have two realistic choices when we vote. Republican and Democrat. I just really wish we had more choices during elections and would love to see another party grow up and challenge the two old dogs. That got me wondering what you lot think: how many parties do you think would be ideal? [Maybe you're against parties altogehter]. I personally would love to have another party or two as options but at the same time I feel too many parties would make government even less effecient than it already is. Thoughts? What would you see as ideal? |

We only really have a choice between 2 over here as well. If you don't vote for either labour or conservatives you have wasted your vote. |

I disagree. People sacrificed a great deal over the years to ensure that I have the right to vote. I dishonour and discredit their sacrifice by not exercising that right. |

How lucky you are to have two parties to vote for, with differing ideas. Here we have Labour (for capitalism) or Conservative (for uber-capitalism). Not much choice, unlike yourselves. |

I didn't vote at the last election. I don't feel any political party really represents me. The major parties are full of people in it for the power - not ideals. It does make me laugh sometimes when older people still look at Labour as being working-class, and Conservatives being the party of the middle-classes, when in reality both parties most benefit the super-rich elites they love mixing with. |

We have compulsory voting in Australia - you are fined if you fail to vote. To me that is a terrible system - if I don't want to vote surely that is my right - likewise if I want to vote (or be involved or start a political party or a newspaper or a blog .....) then that too should be my right. The State should not force me to do anything - as an individual I want to make my own decisions without the State thinking for me. |

Are you allowed to go to the polling station and "spoil your ballot paper" as we are in this country ? |

Yeah I agree Aussie - I think compulsory voting is ridiculous. It doesn't seem very liberal and democratic to be forcing people to vote. |
