With everything thatgs going on with our club at the moment we all have to think what would be a realistic goal for this season. For me it would be for us to still be running at the end of this season and still be in the championship. I would so love to see us get promoted, my heart says we can do it but unless something dramatic happens between now and the closing of this transfer window my head says I really can't see us gaining promotion, but I will be there week in week out cheering us on and praying that we achieve the impossible. Yes many on here will say I'm fickle or even worse but heyho I have a right to my own opinion.

We're going to get promoted mate.

Great young team, great manager and great football all to be seen at St.Andrews this season.

I honestly think we're selling ourselves short here. Despite all of the departures, I still think we'll finish top four. Our squad is still choc-full of quality for this division, and I think the primary worry has to be strength in depth, as we face so many games this season.

Honestly, I think all of the predictions about us going down this season go a bit far. Throughout our team, we have players who are some of the best in their positions in this league.

Keepers: If we keep Foster, we'll have by far the best keeper in the league.

Defenders: Stephen Carr, Curtis Davies, Scott Dann (if we can keep him, not counting on it) are capable of absolutely bossing most Championship attacks. All of these are premier league caliber players, or at least have that potential (I expect Davies to come good).

Midfielders: Keith Fahey bossed central midfield last time in the championship, and we have no reason to expect he won't do the same. Chris Burke is widely thought to be one of the best wingers in the division, and I would be surprised if Beausejour didn't star in this division; he's got all the technical skills, plus the strength to handle the physicality of the league. Mutch, meanwhile, was pivotal for Watford, no reason to think he won't do even better in a better team.

Strikers: here's where we're weakest, and if Jerome leaves, we'll be very light on numbers. Marlon King is definitely one of the better goalscorers in the division, and Rooney looks promising (but the jury is certainly still out on him). If Jerome stays, he's got the pace and power to trouble defences in this division, and should do substantially better playing in front of a midfield which makes forward passes.

As I said, I think we are still short on numbers, particularly up front and on the flanks. But that being said, even with the departures, our team arguably still has vastly more quality across the board than almost any other team in the division.

I'll be very happy if we're challenging for the play offs, if we can get into the top 6 at the end of the season who knows what can happen.

More important for me is the style of football and being competitive, I want to be excited and entertained!

Realistic aims for me are a mid-table finish with hopefully an outside chance of making the play-offs. If we do better and finish top-6 I would consider it a great season.

We've got a lot of rebuilding to do and very little money to do it with. On the plus side we've got a very good, very likable manager with a hell of a lot to prove that I think the fans could really unite behind. I just hope people don't start getting on his back if after a couple of months we don't look like we're strolling to promotion. He has to be given time to sort out this mess and in 2 or 3 seasons I can see him turning us into a real force in this division, but unfortunately I think next season will be too soon to realistically think about promotion. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Spot on, my sentiments entirely.

I think (hope) that after all our "stars" go, we will still be left with enough of last seasons Prem team to at least mount a challenge for 6th place. If we can do that anything is possible, as we all know.

Promotion; by any means necessary.

Marlon King is one of the best centre forwards in the league, Rooney will prove capable, Beausejour *fingerscrossed* and Burke will be one of the better wing combos in the league, the defence will be solid, the soul of the side remains with Carr, Gomis is going to surprise many, Mutch will show why there is/has been such high expectations for him, and Fahey is going to make his doubters look silly.

You're so right, we DO need more realistic goals. Realistically achievable.

So let's make the posts slightly further apart.

I reckon that would do it. We'll get loads more in the back of them then.

Oh, I just took time to read the Op...

More attacking football, maybe a run at the play-offs.

Better shading, that would make them look more realistic, more 3D I reckon, just a bit of hatching, cross hatching, just on the darker edge. Always does the job I think. Might even get a B for that.

Reminds me of getting caught in the toilets doing art homework before class, by the art teacher... he gave me a b5

I think a realistic goal this season is to score 10 goals and get one point, ideally at home to Barnsley.

Also, if we end the season with 11 players it will be a success.

IMO I don't think we are going to win the league outright, but with the current squad of players I think the play-offs are realistic

King will do well and score 15 plus goals

I also think our best chance of getting straight out of this league is to get out of Europe as quick as we can, will be good to have some jolly boy outtings; however the sooner we are out the better

Realistic goals for me are promotion. I truly believe we are going to be competitive this coming season, automatic or play offs I'm not sure but I just feel we can do it. The board must help though as we are still one or two players light.
Chris Hughton will make us more entertaining and tactically we will be better without the boring stuff of the last few seasons. IF we dont go up I will expect the board to back CH because we need to build for the future. KRO.

The main target at this time IMO is for all to pull together in the same direction and try and help the club through a difficult time

A top six finish, I truly believe should be achievable..........and I am actually hopeful of a top two finish again.

McDross took us up with a team that was arguably no stronger than the current one!
