Bloody typical we always miss out on the good, high profile players. N'zogbia, Keane, Pavlyuchenko... now Carew, brilliant. :banghead:

To be honest I'm not fussed he Isn't coming here.
He will cost big wages (well big In the sense of what we can offer now), he Is known for starting well and then losing Intrest, we can't have that this season, we need players 100% focussed at all times. And Is getting on a bit.
I would be a lot happier to bring In another loan striker, I'm sure CH can find a gem out there to bring In on loan, less money, less wages and would be more motivated to prove themselves.
I think a lot on here are over rating Carew, If he was any good why didn't Stoke pick him up after his loan? They couldn't get Jerome or Carlton Cole so, picking up Carew would be the next step Imo, seeing as he was there last season on loan.

Rooney doesn't look like he can do it at this level. So unless we get someone in of really quality we will struggle. Wood, King, Rooney and someone how will bang them in. King will but we need more than just him. I think Wood will outshine Rooney. KRO!!!!

It seems an impetuously severe judgement especially when considering, as you said, "after just one league game".
If Ziga and Cam leave we'll of course need additional options no matter how well or poor Rooney proves to be, but if one or both end up staying, King, Rooney, Wood, Asante, and Cam and/or Ziga will be more than enough.

Am I the only person who thought Rooney looked quite promising yesterday?
I mean granted he didn't score a hattrick, but I thought he lead the line quiet well, held the ball up, got into some decent positions and used his strength well.

Definitely gonna be a handful this year. Tried his heart out. And why is there 6 pages about Carew and people moaning about him going to London when Hughton explicitly said we were not talking to him?
Unbelievable.

I don't think I'm asking for too much getting a proper striker. We have King but the goals can't fall on just him. Rooney doesn't seem to know what to do when he has the ball. We need Earnshaw, Miller somebody like that to play of King. I think we will struggle if we don't. I'm watching West Ham ATM and they are going to take some beating. KRO!!!!

He might turn out to be rubbish. But are you seriously judging him on his debut game, playing one up front on his own, with a team he has hardly played with. I think he did well, could have done better yes, but I was encouraged. He scored a with a cheeky back heel against Everton, and whilst I know it is perhaps even a lower level, but he did score 50 goals in the past two seasons for his last club.
I agree though, I would rather have a more proven performer up there, but I think he definitely showed potential and was far from poor. As someone else elluded to he reminded me of a Claridge/Horsfield type, neither of whom were particularly skillful but became club legends.

I'm only going by what I've seen. I think he's a good squad player but we to bring in some proven quality or I feel we may struggle. I'd probaly start Wood against Coventry. Or both him and Rooney in a 4-4-2. KRO!!!!

thought rooney's first touch was decent enough. he lacks pace though and without a mobile quick striker around him i believe he'll struggle.
defo not first choice but as a back up he'll suffice. if he ends up being a mainstay in the side all season we'll struggle to score 2 or 3 a game.

Rooney doesn't look like he can do it at this level. So unless we get someone in of really quality we will struggle. Wood, King, Rooney and someone how will bang them in. King will but we need more than just him. I think Wood will outshine Rooney. KRO!!!!
So you base that assumption of Rooney afrer just one League game ???? What an absolutely ridiculous comment !!! :banghead: KRO
This :applause: Definitely gonna be a handful this year. Tried his heart out. And why is there 6 pages about Carew and people moaning about him going to London when Hughton explicitly said we were not talking to him? Unbelievable.
I too agree with your first impression of Rooney, Zeus, and believe he'll have a good season for Blues.
Caveman49,
Did Hughton actually say that? I remember this quote...
He confirmed interest in former Villa striker John Carew, who has admitted having held talks with Championship clubs.
Asked about free agent Carew, Hughton said: “I think the better players, the players who are available, always will be on our radar.
“He will be one of numerous names who are on our radar, and have to be.”
