Myhill - 5 (Not brilliant, but not as bad as most are saying, you could maybe put the blame his way for the first goal, but not the second Imo)

Carr - 6 (Ever reliable, always looking to go on the over lap, looks to have a decent partnership with Burke)
Davies - 6 (Great headded goal but defensivley I'd say was average)
Caldwell - 5 (Not the best display from the experienced Scott but Its his first competitive game)
Ridgewell - 5 (Got forward a few times to get a few balls in to the box, nothing else really though)

Burke - 7 (Very lively, ran the Derby defence ragged, unlucky to hit the bar, looks a very, very good signing!)
Gomis - 6 (Average, won the ball a few times and lost the ball a few times, he'll get better I'm sure)
Mutch - 7 (Impressive display I thaught, always want's the ball, can spot a pass and Isn't affraid to shoot, bright future ahead of him!)
Fahey - 5 (Played out of position again so wasn't as affective as he could be, will be a big player for us this year Imo, when played CM)
Beausejour - 7 (Same a Burke, lively and created a lot)

Rooney - 5 (Didn't really do all that much, always seemed to be getting In to the positions he needed to but at times the final ball was off. Looks a good signing Imo though)

Subs:
Wood - 6 (Looked lively, hasn't trained with the team at all yet but Imo he looked good)

Thats my opinion anyway, you may agree or you may not.

If Fahey was played out of position today it begs the question when will he be given a start at CM? It's either there or nowhere in my view.

:blues: That is probably the answer as we have had 2 different managers trying to do the same thing with him. It is obvious he is not rated as good as others in central midfield so he is trying his hardest to work the flanks which is just not happening at the moment. I would give him longer to prove his worth, we are not going anywhere special at the moment so now is a good time to give give him his chance to impress in an area other than the centre.

Then if it does not work out add him to the list of those to go.

8 carr awesome
7 davies solid
7 caldwell impressive
4 ridgewell looked uninterested
7 burke impressive
6 gomis at times excellent but tried to hard on occasion and got caught out
8 mutch as i expected will dominate if given the ball
5 fahey played out of position again and it showed
7 beausejour good game especially when just behind rooney however set piece delivery was poor
6 rooney looked like a second choice striker but tried hard
6 wood helped rooney out but ponderous on the ball

6 hughton was happy with his choices but marked down due to redmond not getting 15 min.

He ain't all that in general, though he has started at CM which is his better position.

Never has earned his first team place IMO!

We'd have done better without him today with Redmond starting at LM in the 4-4-1-1 lineup.

Myhill 5 -

I just had no confidence in him tbh. But maybe that's after having the best 2 English goalkeepers between the sticks over the past couple of seasons. He seems quiet, doesn't dominate or command the area well. Hope he improves. From where I was standing just behind the goal I felt like I could have saved the second goal, but thats easy for me to say!

Carr - 7. Did well, still full of energy and running. Great going forward and it was strange seeing Carr and Burke both getting forward at the same. Not used to that with Carr/Larsson under McLeish.Got caught for pace a couple of times though when Derby broke. Seemed quiet in himself though. Not as vocal as he usually is and looked a bit moody.

Davies 7 - Did a decent job. Would like to see him alongside Dann.

Caldwell 6 - average, would rather have someone better though.

Ridgewell 5 - Did very little to impress at either end of the pitch. Doesn't look like the same player without his old pals around him.

Burke 7 - Very promising debut. Unlucky to hit the post, like the look of him.

Gomis 6 - did a job but nothing special, broke up play a few times and played some neat simple passes.

Fahey 6. As usual no real influence on the game. Was hoping he may come into his own and out of the shadow of McLeishs golden boys Ferguson and Bowyer in his way. Hopefully will get better.

Mutch - 7 Did a job, energetic, couple of poor set pieces though but think he will come on leaps and bounds playing regularly and once the team start to gel.

Beausejour- 7 will be a big player for us once he gets a run in the team and hits full fitness.

Rooney - 7 .. promising debut. Think he did well on his own up front. Unlucky not to score with a header in the second half. Thing he will be a good signing.

Wood - strong and made some good runs. Will be good player to have on the bench if we sign him for a longer stretch.

General thoughts.. Lacked pace. Need to find a free kick taker. Although we lost I actually really enjoed the game though. The football was entertaining, open game, there were even forward passes and we even got a substitution before the 80th minute and it wasn't a defensive one!

Special mention to Colin Doyle, just before kick off one of his kicks fizzed into the crowd and hit some little kid flush in the face at speed. Little kid started crying and running up the stairs. Doyle came running over jumped the barrier into the crowd and gave the lad his gloves, one of the blues staff also gave him one of the balls he was training with. Was a nice touch and saw the lad running around later with a big smile on his face!

Starting to wish it was me who had been hit in the face but the tears might not have been so convincing at my age
:crying: :P

I pretty much agree with these scores and comments, although sevens for both Mutch and Gomis (didn't think either was better than the other) and a seven for Rooney as he really reminds of a Claridge/Saville type striker and think he will do well here :)

But everything else I think is bang on!!

I thought most were around 5 except Carr who would be a 7, as would Beausejour, Rooney 6, same as wood, then Myhill would be a 4, looked tottall out of his depth. The goal keeping coach seriously need to get to grips with him. He looked like he tuned out for large parts of the game.

I remember one part with Myhill that did genuinely make me think "Jesus!", they were attacking down our left and I can't remember if they beat our man unexpectedly or we lost possession but he was totally not concentrating and you pretty much saw his reaction of "oh !"£$!" luckily he wasn't called into action but his mind was someplace else, he wasn't switched on.

Don't want to be too harsh as I guess he hasn't played competative football for a while, which is the same thing with Doyle. Don't forget that season we came up Doyle he played out of his skin and he was getting linked to the likes of Arsenal etc. Its got to be tough coming back into the fold after a lengthy spell in the non-competative wilderness, especially in such a crucial position.

As I said earlier I think we have been spoiled in recent years, we had Maik who was awarded Premiership keeper of the season, followed by Hart, followed by Foster.

Myhill 5 - Seemed injured and did not look comfortable
Ridgewell 6 - His experience shows but a bit sloppy with passes
Caldwell 7 - Solid performance and forming a good partnership with Davies
Davies 8 - Great goal and important tackles
Carr 7 - Kept trying to get forward but wasnt passed to enough
Burke 8 - Great movement on the ball
Mutch 7 - Wanted to get on the ball and did some good passes
Gomis 7 - Good positioning but got caught in possession a couple of times
Fahey 6 - Wasnt his usual standard today, lost the ball and wasnt running at players
Beausejour 8 - Good pace and wanted the ball a lot and good dribbling skills
Rooney 6.5 - Could be an average player but his strength wasnt good today and didnt win many balls

Wood 7 - Seemed like he could be a decent player, worked hard and chased back as well as attacking

Mutch -spread it around, still think he's over rated

If played in the middle and given a license to create (especially in 433) he could be one of our, if not most important player.

Don't agree with your thoughts on Fahey!!!
Thought he could have played a lot better than he did..ether he didn't want to play LM so didn't try or his minds somewhere else!!!
Think we need a left sided midfielder
And i'd get Upson in if he's still available?

Myhill - 1

Carr - 6 Couldn't beat the full back and didn't get as many crosses in as he should and should have buried the rebound off the post

Davies - 7 Looked a bit shaky at times in the air

Caldwell - 8 Looked quality in the air and I think he will be quality all season for us

Ridgewell 8 Got a few crosses in and got himself into space a lot

Beausajour 9 Brilliant attacking and had a few good free kicks

Fahey 6 Wasn't to impressive all round but the short passing was good

Gomis 7 I wasnt too impressed with him tbh, someone on Sky said he was ok but he seemed to lose the ball quite a lot

Mutch 9 My man of the match, controlled the midfield very well, he is going to be a quality player, shame on his free kick.

Burke 9 Brilliant player will do well for us, his run was very impressive too

Rooney 8 Shows the signs of a great striker, has the eye for goal but he looked a little isolated

Wood N/A

Hughton - 10 - Brilliant tactics, passing in the oppositions half a lot and our goal was in the 18th minute, under McLeish we would have had our first shot then.

Fans were good too - apart from me, I'm a jynx, my 3rd away game my 3rd loss, if you take away Wembley.
