fantastic post man utd and chelsea both play 451 but when they attack its 4-3-3 which i think is a very good formation if you have the players

And for the first time in years - we do **thumbup

I can't remember the last time we had two out and out wingers with pace....
Even McSheffrey got the speed and confidence trained out of him....
Did Stan ever have a right wing partner - no political jokes

It was not 4-4-2 was it. I appreciate the lack of strikers but that did not mean that we could not have played with 2 up front. Where was Redmond for example? I welcomed all the many comments pre-season about how our new manager would be much more attack minded but first game, first chance, only 1 up front.

Then we leak 2 goals in, have to score ourselves, and it was then only late into the game we started to go for it. (Just like most of last season)

Our lengthy sick list of our strikers goes someway to forgiving not playing 2 up front - not away to Man Utd, Not away to Chelsea, but against Derby.....Poor!

I was also disspointed by our managers reply after the game to the question; why leave Dann on the bench? Id have hoped for the truth which was that although fit (had to be or would not have been on the bench) he was not being risked as we need to sell him to get the money in. He was only sitting their as a sign to new buyers that he was fit. He may as well had a great big for sale sign hanging around his neck. Instead we were told that he didnt start as he had not played a lot of football lately. If he wasnt fit what was he doing on the bench?

Then if we were so much more attack minded, and given that certain players were fading fast towards the end of the game, why did we only make one sub? Lets face it - our new manager froze and when the game was calling out for Redmond (anyone) he did nothing. McLies was late in making subs, our new man didnt even make them.

So I wish Chris luck and ill welcome him next weekend but on the basis of this first match - sorry not good from the manager. Our defence leaked goals and he left Dann on the bench (is he not meant to be our best defender) and when behind and needing to score where was Redmond and why did we not use 2 other subs?

I think Chris will come good, and im sure we will see better next Sat against Cov where it must be 4-4-2. I think we have the best manager of the lot we looked at so im not anti him. Im just dissapointed. Sorry if most disagree with me. KRO.

As most teams do, you can attack better at times with 4-5-1 if played the right way. I.E when chelsea used to play it with Drogba down the middle and Duff and Robben wide and high up the pitch.

CH's way is the same and we should have won the game, add to that we only have one fit forward then I don't see any issues myself. I hope we have a new striker in for the cov game as I think we are light on the ground unless the Zigic and Jerome are now staying.

We should have won that game. We hit the woodwork and had a couple of penalty calls that were waved away. I like the way we are playing and we will only get better. We must also remeber that we have a whole new team. Give them a few more games to gel and for Chris to put his mark on the team(we have seen that now).

Did you watch the game?

It was more like a 4-3-2-1 with Burke and Beau probing. Night and day w/ McLeish's 4-5-1.

Also how about CH bringing on a striker for Fahey with a whole 30 mins left? McLeish would never have done this!

I too wanted to see Redmond but will trust in CH's judgement as it seems he A) knows what he's doing, B) wants to win, and C) is not a stubborn **** and is actually prepared to make changes when his lineup isn't working.

**thumbup agreed!!
