1979-80 lost 4-3 v fulham. Final position 3rd + promotion
1984-85 won 1-0 v oldham. Final position 2nd + promotion
1986-87 won 2-0 v stoke. Final position 19th
1989-90 won 3-0 v crewe. Final position 7th
1994-95 won 2-1 v orient. Final postion 1st + promotion
2006-07 won 2-1 v colchester. Final position 2nd + promotion
2008-09 won 1-0 v sheff urd. Final position 2nd + promotion

So 4 first game wins => promotion
3 wins => no promotion
1 defeat => promotion

Think that was two seasons ago when they was In League 1, If I remember right It was against Colchester.
