Haven't had much chance to read through the posts so not sure it's been mentioned.

I agree with what i have read in that it was a pretty decent attacking display and we were unlucky to lose, however there was one part of the game that really annoyed me.
Whenever the ball was cleared from the Derby box there was no Blues player anywhere near or attempting to get near to the ball falling outside of the box.

This is a great chance to fire a ball straight back in at goal and seems like we missed that chance badly.

You know who would've been there, Dare I say his name, but he was a blues fan apparently who just moved to Sunderland

Agreed, could be a problem if Gomis and Mutch are the central midfield pairing.

Only too true. Was a definate possibility (!) that he could have got on a few of those clearances and who knows what would have happened?

Going to add another gripe aswell. Beausejour!!! Sorry, I just don't get him. There he was endlessly wasting corners and freekicks, and yet I heard hardly any groans when he did - just a good job it wasn't Jerome, cause we wouldn't have heard the last of it.

Those two issues to one side, the team played well and there's no way we should have lost that game, especially with the 2nd half performance.

BUT sort out another set-piece player please CH.

They were very poor...its an area we need to sort, double quick. But the guy is right about balls at the edge of the area, if we continue to play like we did will get loads of free balls to lash back in....only lets keep em down.(Steve)

Set-pieces have been an area of weakness for the past two seasons but credit where credit is due - it was Mutch's well delivered corner that was met by Davis for the opener.

I personally think Fahey should be taking free-kicks.

Watford scored a fair few from Mutch's corners last season.

Really? Because from where I was sitting he was tipping a good few over.

Fahey was the worst player for me yesterday, constantly cutting on the inside like Beausejour leaving no wide left option, Hughton saw that clearly and brought Wood on. For me I would have preferred Redmond as he's been the most promising player in pre season! Definitely cause for concern for Myhill as well, looked jittery all game and only really had 2 shots to save, one of which was a goal and he should have at least put his hands towards it! But positive attacking football was good to see and glad Curtis is heading in the right direction both attacking threat and defensive solidity! Caldwell was decent as well! Free Kicks from Beausejour were a mixed bag really and plus needs to get adjusted to being main set piece taker, however i think Mutch is a far better corner taker!

All the faults we see will be seen by Chris H. Have no doubt.

Also have no doubt that we have a squad appreciably less able that in our Premier days and what we see on the pitch will reflect that. There is the new philosophy to learn and finding the legacy players that can fit into this together with new players specifically sourced for this style. That will take this transfer window and the next and it may only be after the next summer window that the squad is capable of a serious promotion challenge.

In the meantime we are going to see by some, perhaps many examples of less technical skills, less awareness on the ball and weaker football intelligence but we will have the benefit of a very able footballing coach (CH) and goalkeeper coach (DW) so we hope that significant improvements will be seen.

If I have a concern it is how a coach with an average playing and coaching record (PT) can impart the necessary skills to a group of players and for a club aspiring to the Premier League. Yes you don't need to have been at the Somme to teach the Great War but wouldn't a Law student for example expect to be taught about unlawful trading practice by someone other an employee in the Citizen's Advice Bureau? With due respect to PT I just don't get it.
