St Andrews; Could we learn a lesson from Pride Park?

First time I went to Pride park yesterday, and even though it was the first game of the season with our great away following, I was expecting a soulless bowl of a stadium.

How wrong I was. It was one of the best atmospheres at an away ground I've been to for as long as I can remember.

Their vocal lot were in the corner to my right, and they stood up and sang throughout the game. I know away supporters do but you don't normally see this from the home side nowadays.

I got the impression that if you went to that corner, you knew what to expect, and the stewards were well chilled. That still left, the vast majority of the stadium, where people could sit in silence if they wanted to, so everyone seemed to win.

Couldn't St Andrews learn something from this to try and get our partisan support back, for which we used to be known for?

I'd put that down to it being the first game of season and an encouraging Derby performance.

I couldn't make it yesterday but the last two times I visited Pride Park it was just that - a soulless bowl of a stadium.

Think this keeps getting asked and the police and club so no because of access issues.

I was on the right Jakee, only a few rows away from their lot, and it was lively there, where the stewards just let them stand. Shame we can't take over a section of the Tilton like that.

Block 11 Barmy Army?

If enough people stand in a block then they wont tell you to sit down. Done it in Block 12 a few times. I'd love for some sections of the Tilton to be able to stand though, the Cardiff fans do it behind one of the goals every match and they're fine. Makes a great atmosphere.

How wrong I was. It was one of the best atmospheres at an away ground I've been to for as long as I can remember.

Being on the other side of the stand, I had exactly the opposite experience.

The fans I could see were silent until their two goals, and even then weren't very vocal.

Nice stadium tho.

Nice stadium tho.

Sounds as though that was the stiffs section that side, but the other where I was standing was noisey all the way through.

Making a note of block 11 for future reference. Would you need a s/t though if you wanted to stand together?

And must admit, that last ditch tackle at the end was probably the best I'm going to see all season - looked a cert it was going to be 2-2.

Unquestionably the best block at St Andrews for atmosphere. It also has the highest number of ST holders so it's tough to get a ticket. It's always the first block to sell out if you take a look at the online seat planner.
