I'm with you there

I always enjoy chucking these things around with you.

To be fair, I bet if we met you would recognise me, I've been going home and away for years and went to a lot of the away games 20 years ago and knew by site a lot of the old faces.

By chance I was at a barbeque miles from Brum and a guy came out on to the patio, we just looked at each other, we recognized each other immediately despite the fact we had never really crossed paths. He was a face from those times too, and had been a bit naughty in the past (and still is when he thinks his wife isn't watching!)

It was a small old world in those days, and when there 200-300 of us on the old terraces at Reading, Leicester and all those places

Have a feeling i would recognise you then Hooby
im up for a beer if you are ever about, and we can put the world to rights

Much of Tottenham looks like a war zone. Meanwhile, Small Heath has been unaffected.

If they get a kick out of fighting then good for them, only once when they fight with innocent bystanders do I class it as wrong, when it is with other 'firms' then it's Ok for me.

Hobby grow up ... its NOT our firm or there firm ....its our City was being smashed up by m u p p e t s who do NOT care about other peoples properties, goods or peoples lives. Whites blacks muslins etc stand together to fight these 's c u m'. When its football its total different so tell me when was the last time Blues v vile did either of them smash up the City centre .... never !!!!!
Like in London when its footie its just one firm against another they DO NOT smash up or burn London

I'm not sure having read that you're in any position to tell me to 'grow-up'

I am struggling to distinguish between looting and violence at football, I guess you're distinguishing between fighting with each other and attacking other people's property, which I see. However, football violence is not a victimless crime either and, in my mind, is just as bad as the looting.

I've seen plenty an innocent given a good pasting by a Blues faithful and vice versa, I've seen property smashed, I've seen shops raided. I can remember being on a train back from Oxford where during a game self-styled BCFC supporters had en-masse looted a designer clothing store.

What is the difference?

I'm not sure how questioning this makes me in need of 'growing up', perhaps you could explain that?

I DON'T have to explain my action to my wife so I'm NOT going to explain things to you. You sound like you work for the Government. If you have 'been around for a few years' like you said then you would know the difference between two 'firms' having a go at each other & what is going on in our city & in other citys. They are looting because they have NO MONEY etc BUT the footie firms HAVE MONEY, they can & do dress in modern clothes & afford to go to most games .... thats the difference between the two. I don't know were you live but what would you do if a 'looter' was going to do damage to you house or street, talk to him... :LMAO:

I don't work for the Government

There seems to be a bit of a myth growing that football violence is a victimless crime, I'm yet to be convinced that this is the case.

Some of the people that committed the looting did have money in many cases, there was a millionaires daughter, a graphic designer, a teachers assistant. They looted because they were caught up in it, because of the thrill and the adrenaline buzz. I guess those aren't that different an emotion to someone that causes trouble at football.

Perhaps, the two parties which you've differentiated, aren't that different after all?

I live in quiet area where there was no trouble, and of course I would defend my property, but I wouldn't march around looking for trouble either.

You don't have to explain yourself to me, but all I'm saying is that its a bit hypocritical of people that by their own admission act outside the law all of a sudden become the self-appointed defenders of the law. Other posters are right, we're all to a certain extent hypocrites because we've all sped in our cars or done something wrong, but I'm talking about a violent group that suddenly becomes the protector, it does have a sense of irony to it. I go back to earlier when I posted about the Krays, that whole myth that it was safer when they were about is really what some are saying here, and to an extent I understand that and even agree. It doesn't mean that I like it though.

I've chucked this whole subject around a lot with forum members, and I do see where people come from, I just find it amusing that suddenly the law breakers and the law makers. Its fascinating.

I'd write a book about it, but I think I've been beaten to it by about a thousand others!!!!
