The simple reason why I would want promotion over a Europa run is the because I believe if Hughton doesn't get us promoted first time round, he will be sacked, but I think he is the man to take us forward.
I think the whole we have to get promoted is simply the board trying to save face, and is more hope than realistic ambition. European progression = money, and a steady flow until we are knocked out which the board must appreciate in our current position. If Hughton gets us to the play-offs (which i think he will) it will be a great achievement EDIT: I like how you completely backtracked a minute after your post :fishing:
 I really must proof read my posts before clicking the 'Add Reply' button.

with the current cash issues i'd settle for us to be still in this league come May 2012 and the current owners to be gone.
This, :applause: be careful you don't get branded a WUM
You know i do that to sometimes... Set my sights low so if something brilliant happens I can be pleasantly surprised by it, but if the worst happens I can say i expected it. Cynical as it may be.
I just can't believe there's a substantial amount of supporters who genuinely fear we'll be relegated. There's just such a small chance that it would happen. We're just FAR more likely to be pushing for promotion in my estimation.

Win the league by January Retain our trophy in February Lose heroically in the fa cup semi final in April Bring home the Europa cup in May
But then what would we have to man about? Oh yes, failure in the FA cup.

we have dominated both our opening games, as well as dominating Everton in a friendly. While our squad is thin if Hughton can keep the team fit we have one of the best starting 11's in the league.
And you're a WUM because you love McLeish not because you think we're going down! < <

If we can bring a few more bodies in as well to boost the numbers, we'll be fine.
All the predictions of doom for the league run in are rather frustrating. We've looked capable.

Ok, well this isnt a McLeish thread.
Your thoughts are that we will be lucky to stay up, and shouldn't even be thinking about Europe.
Fair enough, but I have faith in Hughton to lead the squad to the group stages and to a mid table finish. :applause:

Here's the money for winning the Europa League:
1st qualifying round: €90,000 2nd qualifying round: €90,000 3rd qualifying round: €90,000 Playoffs: €90,000 Group stage: €1,000,000 Group match victory: €120,000 Group match draw: €60,000 1st knock out round: €180,000 2nd knock out round: €270,000 Quarter-finals: €360,000 Semi-finals: €630,000 Qualifying for Final: €2,000,000 Winning the Final: €2,000,000 + €1,000,000
Win the Cup and we'll get <£5m.
Get promoted back to the Prem and we get an extra £40m MINIMUM (total increase in all revenues would push £60m) in increased revenues, play in the best / most popular (you decide) league in the world.
Now let's look at the two competitions: in the Championship, we know who have to play and we'll be playing them week in, week out. In the Europa league, we'll slog our guts out for half a dozen meaningless wins against fly speck teams, suffer the inevitable fatigue and injuries that are inevitable from dragging our ar&ses to FC Armpitski and royally shaft any chance of promotion we may have had.
So to suggest that winning the Europa is better that promotion means one thing: you must be absolutely bl&&dy mad. Personally, I hope we get through the group then get beaten ASAP.
That is just prize money, with tv which 70% of our income of that £40 mill from the preb would be from, would make playing in europe a lot better than that. Not to mention ticket sale & merchandising.

Nor is this a thread about our owners. :banghead:
There is no way we will go down this year, you must be barking mad to think we are basically already doomed.
Betfair have us at 53/10 for promotion, and 63/10 for relegation.
You and your mates should be under 24/7 suicide watch because you sound like the most depressing group of people ive ever come across.
Most exciting season for a while for me :dancer:

Don't tell me what i think
What i know is we don't have the squad at the moment to compete
In the Championship and we will do well to stay up,
what is negative about that statement it after all is just my opinion
so if stating my opinion is being a WUM ,so be it i couldn't give a *****

Also, I would much rather get into the group stages than win promotion, as if we fail to get promoted, would it be that bad?
I think you are barking up the wrong tree.
We are a midtable team at best --- a Europa progression will mean a huge relegation threat due to (a) 6 fixture postponements before Christmas and (b.) a ridiculously small squad not being able to cope with 2 games a week.
Europa, no thanks. Everything is stacked up against it.

I am not being derisory just posting what is a reality
we will do well to stay up with the squad we have No one to blame except the bunch of chancers that own us.

I think done people on here forget that Eck has gone to Villa. He has shown zero respect to our fans and that is why he's a Judas. Not because he left. I don't blame for that he was never going to get us promoted and his ego is to big for that. To go to Villa after winning the Cup with us is what I don't agree with. Could have been a legend. Not now. KRO!!!!

This. I can't see him walking out if he didn't have a job to go to, otherwise he'd have left after tottenham.
BBN you can carry on defending eck, but people on here or the majority feel the same about what he did. You can't expect people to see it from your side unless you have proof of what you're saying is true. You're always saying "the truth will out" and "in eck I trust" but from where I'm sitting he dumped on this club and us fans good and proper, people don't trust a man that does this?
Blues in Europe, absolutely fantastic opportunity to so something for our club, we will never have another opportunity like this anytime in the near future, so I think we should give it our all!!

with the current cash issues i'd settle for us to be still in this league come May 2012 and the current owners to be gone.
We're just FAR more likely to be pushing for promotion in my estimation.
we have dominated both our opening games, as well as dominating Everton in a friendly. While our squad is thin if Hughton can keep the team fit we have one of the best starting 11's in the league. And you're a WUM because you love McLeish not because you think we're going down! < <
I dont love Big Eck but i will defend him to the hilt against totally incorrect lies that is posted on here. As i have said before i only post replys to inappropriate lies. Just because i defend some of the garbage spouted about Eck haters don't make me a WUM but you believe what you want it don't bother me iam not in a personality contest :dancer:
Ok, well this isnt a McLeish thread. Your thoughts are that we will be lucky to stay up, and shouldn't even be thinking about Europe. Fair enough, but I have faith in Hughton to lead the squad to the group stages and to a mid table finish. :applause:
Every thread should be about our owners My pals like me don't have their heads in the clouds like some on here. I am not being derisory just posting what is a reality we will do well to stay up with the squad we have No one to blame except the bunch of chancers that own us. Pannu and Yeung out now
I think we will be mathmatically safe with about 10 games to go.
But no doubt, McLeish would've got one more point than Hughton ever does . < <
