One never stops learning.
When I saw the team sheet, and especially the formation, I was upset to see Rooney on the bench. To then also see Ridge out of the back 4 was surprising and I personally wondered what on earth our manager was doing...........
In personally wanting to see us playing 4-4-2 - last night the lesson was made.
4-1-4-1 and wow what a performance and a great result.
I know why Ill never be a manager and well done boss!
Only one point though - stop the players hitting the woodwork :-)
:applause:

now would be a PERFECT time to do the crossbar challenge on Soccer AM. Anyone know if we're due?

Just proves its not all about simply playing 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 or any formation.

The tactics, and players, have to be right for it.

McLeish was incredibly negative in his 4-5-1 and didnt have the right players to play it, except possibly for that cup final... he usually played Jerome uptop on his own, and we had no real threat out wide from Seb or Fahey to support the striker if it ever got held up.

Currently we've been relying on Wood and Rooney who can both hold up the play so fit well upfront, and have also seen appearances on the flanks from people like Burke, Redmond and Beausejour, who all want to get forward and support.

Its refreshing to see, and it shows that just simply because we have 1 upfront, and 5 in midfield to start a game on paper... how the new managers tactics seem to instantly make that a slick, fluid 4-3-3 on the attack

As I said in another post CH got his tactics spot on. The formation he used was very good. It gave us a defensive barrier with the back 4, Ridge and Spector and an attacking force with Wood, Burke, Beau, Redmond and Spector in behind. Fantastic call by CH. **thumbup Great game by the boys also.

I just pray that CH sticks with us, as everyone else here has already stated, our attacking play and passing was entertaining to watch and a breathe of fresh air. He's a quality manager and I just hope the club get themselves sorted and support him the way he deserves. He's a true professional and gentleman and even though we're in a dark period of our history, he's already turning into a shinning light. Well done to all the lads, they were excellent!

10shots plus about 12 versus Coventry and 20against derby equals about 42

What I liked was that they all looked like they were enjoying playing for Blues, they looked like a proper unit, despite having very few games under their belts as a gelled team. If this is the benchmark for the rest of the season, I'm suddenly far more up for it than I thought I already was.

Still not renewing Sky sports though. Don't need to any more :-)

If only the ginger McNobhead had not released Kevin Philips.

Old McIneptgingernuts relegated us twice, got us playing the worst "football" in the 135 years history of the club and then totally throws us into oblivion.

The Board made 2 mistakes last season - the first was extending the McInept's contract and the second was not sacking him after the Spurs game before he could do even more damage.

My God, I hate that guy more than I did in the three years he was here............and believe me I hated McLeish.

Just need to think on this.......If we had mustered another couple of points last season and avoided the drop then A M would still be in charge here and we would be watching the same old boring matches. So there is a silver lining to relegation at least we now have CH and refreshingly attacking football.

Now the financial problems are something different completely and might have meant the same sell off of players even in the prem. If we can get back on to an even keel with the finances we should be in a much much better position than if we had stayed up. Only thing is it is a really big IF.

54% of possesion and 10 shots in one game (3 against the woodwork). Last year we played four or five at least without having a single shot including 3 games in a row without creating a single chance. All this with a second division side away to European competition. Very refreshing to see and a credit to all involved. I'm looking forward to this season and the new era of CH.

**thumbup

I apologise to all for not reading all of the responses but I've got to say that I agreed with every word in your post, so thought it was not necessary to read on.

Yep - atleast we can look forward to the match now - win, lose or draw! :kro:

Blimey - I felt guilty at not looking at responses (see my post above), so read the few above mine.

I agree with yours as well!!

I am really starting to believe that there may be some sense out there!!

There's hope for us yet :o
