Newcastle to reignite interest in wantaway Birmingham defender Ridgewell

Newcastle are ready to renew their interest in Birmingham’s Liam Ridgewell.
The 27-year-old defender submitted a transfer request in August amid enquiries from Alan Pardew and West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson but a deal fell through.
Ridgewell is expected to be made available in January and Newcastle see the versatile defender as an ideal recruit to cover various positions.

no disrespect to ridgewell but if he wants to go still and newcastle want him then let him go.we've got adequate replacement in murphy.would say would rather players in exchange rather than cash in the bank never to be seen again

Have him, if we can get a fee for him, by all means sell him, get Hughton to bring in a free as back up for Murphy and all is good business.

If he still wants out, then id let him go, doesnt look like he wants to be here at times.

Part exchange for people like Gosling/Guthrie etc would be good.

Guthrie is regarded as weak & windy by geordies. Ridge is model pro but after what happened in his domestic life in the summer (ALLEDGEDLY!!!) dont blame him for wanting away, remember he aint a brummie!

Never was a left back, currently we have better options at CB. Play Murphy at LB and take the cash. Good business I think,

I've supported Ridgey since he signed, and would like to keep him still, but if he's eager to move on we should oblige him come January... He's been a revelation since moving to left-back (especially the last two prem seasons), but this season (for whatever reason) Murphy has outshone him to this point, and really should be first choice.

there's no way Ridge would play LB for any other team

think he'd be back up for Coloccini and Taylor. plus Newcastle have a rock solid defence this season, can't see him breaking into it

personally i like ridge. i think defensively he's solid and although hes not that exciting going forward he gets the job done at left back. however if we could get 3 or 4 mil for him then we should take it. murphy has proved he's good enough and if we could get cheap back up for him then it would be a great peice of business. we could even try to make it part of the deal that we get perch or some good left back on loan, hughton will know if they have any players worth getting from his time there.

He is worth no more than 1.5mill. But think a prem club will pay that at least, as if they are interested at all then they havnt done their homework on him. The sooner he goes the better. Should never keep the Murf out or any other player for that matter. He has been shocking this season.

£4m+ is what i would have accepted in the last transfer window, but his performances to this point in the season must now have him nearer a £2.5m valuation (possibly lower).

For whatever the reasons he's not been the player we've grown accustomed to over the past few seasons, and Murphy has overtaken him on current form.

Losing Ridgey now would be no great loss at all (and would arguably be an improvement), considering he's being played in front of the clubs in form left-back.

If he's desperate to leave, then grant him his wish, and take whatever we can get in return.
