I've seen a tweet today suggesting that Arsenal and Man City are both after Jack Butland for £1.5M. 1. I hope this is completely inaccurate & 2. £1.5M for a great prospect whos just signed a 5 year deal? Surely not right? |

Well Arsenal do have a history of speculating on very young players and given their goalkeeping problems these last few years there just might be some truth in it. Hope not. |

He is young, English and inexperienced. No way would Arsenal spend 1.5 million on him, more like 15 million. A move to either of them clubs would not be good for his short or long term career. In his short term he would not get to work with one of the best Goalkeeping coaches in the country. In the long term he would probably find it hard to establish himself as a number 1 at either club as the Number 1s at those club are both young and have a long term future at their clubs. The best thing for Butland is to stay with us for the forseeable future, he will be our number 1 within 3-5 years. |

i think he might be number 1 next year if he stays at cheltenham this season because if we dont get foster back or sign myhill then were not going to be going out and spending ona goalkeeper |

£1.5m is a joke, and something we'd be mad to even consider if theres any truth in it. Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain cost Arsenal upwards of £12m each. |

I think the two teams suggested stop me believing this story! Arsenal have got a brilliant young goalkeeper in Chesney Hawkes and Man City have the England No.1 who is good enough to be their first choice for another 15 years. It wouldn't make sense for them to invest in another young keeper. The situation both clubs find themselves in with top quality young goalies means it is more likely they would want a more experienced, older keeper as their number 2! Keep faith the Butters will be ours for the foreseeable future!! |

He's not even played a first team fixture for Blues, and we're already discussing his imminent departure to one of the world's best clubs. No doubt he's being watched and any number of clubs will (and should) be interested, but I prefer to focus on what he'll be contributing to Blues in goal as opposed to speculating on how soon he'll be taken from us. |

I've already read it. I was responding more to the general idea and not specifically to your statement, hence i didn't quote you. **thumbup You'll notice that i said, "what he'll be contributing to Blues in goal", which of course alludes exclusively to the future and not the present; much the same as your statement about possible sell on value, I might add. Both of our comments describe future possibilities, and not current circumstances. |

Jack Butland is English, so that rules out Wenger. As for Man City, they don't look at any player whose value is less than £15m. |

Birmingham manager Chris Hughton has hit out at reports that promising goalkeeper Jack Butland could be up for grabs in the January transfer window. Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland have all been linked with the 18-year-old who is currently on loan at Cheltenham until 11th December. But the Blues boss has dismissed talk of the youngster leaving the Championship club and believes he has his heart set on becoming No.1 at St Andrew's. "I would be surprised if there wasn't interest, or his name wasn't mentioned at times," he told the Birmingham Mail. "This is an 18/19-year-old goalkeeper who is a real prospect, playing for England Under 21s. "But he is also a lad who very much showed his intentions some weeks ago by signing a long-term contract here. "We are delighted to have him, we're delighted to keep working on his development and all that Jack has on his mind is one day representing his club between the sticks and we very much look forward to that." Hughton is unsure as to whether Butland will extend his loan period at the Cheltenham, adding: "We need to assess that one. From our point of view, any development he has will benefit us. "Will he go out again? It depends on the circumstances and timing but our thoughts are all about his development." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7316609/? |
