i'm a bruges fan and i also don't really understand what this love in is all about, it actually quite starts to disgust me. grown up people of two total different clubs kissing each others *****. Right you could've had a great time in Brugge or Brum but i don't understand how that's a reason to start kissing the other teams bottom. Some are getting quite hysterical about it too

Flanders, I didn't kiss anyone's bottom when I was in Bruges- they wouldn't let me, I don't know why. People are strange.

At the end of the day Flanders, everyone has a fondness for another club, whatever the reason.

I have a fondness for clubs I have watched whilst on holiday, including the likes of Benifca, PSG, Monaco, RWD and more. I look out for the results of these clubs.

The european adventure that included Bruges was one everyone could easily get to and most that wanted to go got there.

Most of our travelling fans did not expect a totally friendly event, nor a result but when our fans turned up (myself inlduded), come away with a win and a trouble free evening and nothing hostile about the occasion, it was very warming to know, also as I took my son with me I certainly was chuffed that there was no aggro.

The "love in" that has been discussed since is because on a personal note, this has to be one of the most memorable occasions in my history of following Birmingham City, and an occasion I did not ever expect to see.

I have a new club to look out for of a weekend, and that club is Club Brugge, simples! And if I'm ever in Brugge again, I will try to attend a Club Brugge game and not a Cercle game.

As for the 23rd minute, I was pleased to take part at both games.
We dont have to kiss one anothers a**es but for those that have taken something positive out of this then fair play, there are Brugge fans that will now check on our progress and many Bluenoses that will check on yours.

I remember that 3-1 defeat at milwall. Went down on the train with the ghost and matt. Remember seeing the smashed up coach with the fans ( im sure it was the slobs/minstrel wanderers coach and not the official one). Actually asked for a police escort to the station after and was refused as there were only about six of us came on the train!

Mister Moon's (old ATV Centre)

Opposite Lock.....later Bobby Browns

Cedar Club

La Dolce Vita, then Romeo and Juliets, then Pagoda Park (same club on the corner of Smallbrook Q'way)

The Millionaire's (also called Thursdays I think)

--------------

Blasts from the past **thumbup

The Powerhouse (near the Hippodrome), the first club in Brum with lasers???
Topcats (?) in Newhall Street, a bit alternative.
Snobs (I think that's still there?)

My all time favourite club was The Dome, used to be a member and walk through the VIP door past the MASSIVE queue, happy days.

Yeah ! the bouncers were armed with Flans

Didn't last that long did it ?? If I recall

There was a club called Peppermint Place (also known as Chaplins) up near 5 Ways

Whatever happened to Stoodi Bakers on Broad Street ? .....place used to be heaving at weekends , used to frequent Stoodi's before I left Brum for pastures new

Are the boozers The Glasshouse and The Brasshouse still there on Broad Street near the Hyatt Hotel ??

Can't believe SNOBS is still there....that is amazing

Met Kenny Burns in there back in 76/77-ish

He was getting some stick from three of four Vilers .....Kenny just 'stared them out' and I think he said something unrepeatable :LMAO:....he was a hard case ....I would imagine no-one messed with Roger Hynd either

Yes, I'm over my early 40s and I remember Barbarellas and Rebeccas. Not forgetting, of course, the Rum Runner.

I was trying to think of the name of the club that used to be above the ice rink. Was it something like The Heartbeat?

Barbarellas I only ever went to a couple of times. Like never EVER having lived in brum, it was only night-overs after a match or parties and stuff that we'd get as far afield as brum.

Took an ex once to some place out in the wilds to see New York Dolls and also Lou Reed. The dolls didn't turn up and they went and dragged Raymond Froggat out of his pit to do the first half.

I can't think of the name of the place.

It was once a cinema. With a stage like.
Had an hourly all-night bus service then, which was lucky cos it was like 2.00am when Lou Reed finished.

Anyone over 21/41 remember the name of it ? About 30-45 minutes from New Street by double decker. Specialised in prog rock mainly.

Alhambra almost rings a bell, but can't be sure.

Might be confusing it with me then-pub-of-choice in Cov.

:boohoo:

Bleeeding altzheimers like.

Might be 'The Elbow Room', mate

On Newtown High Street

Was behind the listed Victorian pub 'The Barton Arms' ....I think Randy Lerner borrowed the stain glass windows from the bar for his fancy Bistro at Villa Park

I thought you lived in Kingstanding ??

Or is that the ''other'' Elvis on here ??

No.

I know where that was. **thumbup

Must be one of the other Elvis' :LMAO:

This was early-mid 70s.

I'm sure it was a condemmed building, the balcony which was half-heartedy roped-off had huge holes all over the floor. Mountains of joss sticks burning away to contribute to the need for H&S in later years.

I would think most of the nearby residents were permanently stoned from the fumes that came out of the place. Hippie-heaven.

This will keep me up all night, and I don't really want to start ringing the ex at 2.00 am..... :LMAO:

You got me thinking too

The Alhambra was an old cinema in Balsall Heath but might have been a club named that elsewhwere too

I was thinking of The Kings in Great Barr/Hampstead but that wasn't an old cinema....more of a cabaret / dinner venue like The Dome was when it was called 'The Night Out '

Now a popular progreessive rock venue was The Bredon in Stirchley but that was a very old pub set on top of a steep hill

When you said 30 - 45 mins from New St by bus, I'm thinking maybe West Bromwich or even Sutton Coldfield

Sorry, mate

Sorry, mate

It was south, I'm pretty sure we came back into town via Hurst Street.

In daytime like it might not have been as long as that. But I think we crawled along and seemed to stop every few minutes. Mind you we were out of it mostly.

I can remember Lou Reed, wide steps goin upto a series of glass entrance doors.
Pretty fair sized ex-cinema. Holes all over the balcony floor. Bus stop about 20 feet from the entrance. Can remember Froggy - but can't remember what he sang. **thumbup

Hurst Street was about the first bit I recognised coming back. Like early morning 2-3 am.
The venue was like a lot at that time, ran for a few months. Closed down - moved the whole fanbase to another derelict building like.
This one ran for about a year. Advertised in Melody Maker/Sounds and such, was almost respectable I'd think.
Just can't think of it's bloody name.

Oh well, deirdre never liked football anyway, so I'll ring her about 3.00 a.m. I think :LMAO:

Whilst we're off topic :ph43r: Did a gas job for Mr F the owner of Barbarellas' and as a thank-you, he let us play a night there. Great stuff, only it was a punk night, and we played, well, not punk. It was interesting to say the least, especially when they started spitting at us.We didnt know why, so we spat back at them. Turned out they liked us and made us play longer. Happy Daze. Never did get paid though, and we weren't about to ask Mr F I can tell you.

I'm fairly certain Eddie Fewtrell lived not far from me in a leafy upscale part of Harborne near the Lordswood Road

I used to go car washing on his road as a kid

Fair play to him.....without his entrepreneurship we wouldn't have had many places in the centre of Brum to go out and enjoy our youth to the full

I never bought a car off him though

Guilty as charged, mate

Sorry about that

But just think in 30 years time , some Blues fans will still be harping on about their jolly in Bruges

Imagine what a May spring night in Bucharest will be like if we achieve 'the impossible ' ??

Food for thought, like

My Old Man was a copper in Brum in 60's and 70's and the Fewtrell's were well known. We're not talking New York Mafia here but they definitely ruled the roost when it came to territory and drinking establishments.
