Arsenal watching him as well Daily Mail Link Arsenal are looking to continue their commitment to youth by launching a swoop for England Under 21 goalkeeper Jack Butland. The Birmingham keeper - who is currently on loan at Cheltenham - has been watched regularly by Gunners scouts this season. On the radar: Arsenal are keeping tabs on Jack Butland And Arsenal took a key step towards cementing their interest in the 18-year-old after influential chief scout Steve Rowley and goalkeeping coach Gerry Peyton ran the rule over the 18-year-old in England Under-21's 5-0 thrashing of Iceland last Thursday. The Gunners had Butland watched yet again in Stuart Pearce side's 2-1 defeat in Belgium on Monday night. Despite having not played a senior match for Birmingham, the Championship side demonstrated their faith in the teenager by handing him a four-year deal which expires in 2015. Nevertheless, the Gunners are primed to make a move for Butland who has impressed Arsenal spies this season. Sunderland are also interested and have been linked with a £1milllion January move for Butland. The final decision on the potential swoop will be left to manager Arsene Wenger, who views current No. 1 Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal's long-term goalkeeper. Szczesny's current standing as the club's first choice would leave question marks over Butland's progression into the first-team. But with Manuel Almunia and Vito Mannone up for sale and Lukasz Fabianski keen to leave on loan to boost his Euro 2012 chances, Butland features strongly on Arsenal's radar. |

The Wenger bus is coming, and all the kids are running... I'd be absolutely gutted if Jack left. Despite not having played for the first team yet, he is our best youth prospect by a mile. U21s at 18 years of age is no mean feat, and if Myhill hadn't been playing so well this season we would seriously be scratching our heads as to why Butland hadn't been given a chance. Makes no business sense selling him at this point in time, get rid of the big earners first (Zigic, Ridgewell), who ironically aren't playing their so-called "worth". |

If Jack goes (for big money mind) maybe we can get Gunners fringe player on loan from Christmas (Ryo Miyaichi)? |

I believe the only departing Jack will be doing from Blues in the near future is either an extension of the loan to Cheltenham or a similar loan deal to a different club. |

So your reckoning at 19 (when hen joined Utd) and 21 months first team football, Joe Hart and Ben Foster should be worth £25m each and Jack Butland should be worth at least £7m by now. No, United paid over the odds that's why. |

Well again you're forgetting how highly De Gea is rated around the world, some people are certain he'll be the next Spanish Keeper when he reaches his prime. So United have risked a lot on money of him, but we don't know if they have payed over the odds yet, what if he turns into the next Casillas? Butland is a talented player but.... United bought foster for 1 million - Foster had played 36 games for 3 different teams on loan Man City bought Hart for 600k/1.5million - He'd played 54 games for Shrewsbury Town Butland has only played 9 first team club games, and that was for Cheltenham on loan - Do any of you really think we'll get over 2 million for him? |

Or not... Birmingham manager Chris Hughton has hit out at reports that promising goalkeeper Jack Butland could be up for grabs in the January transfer window. Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland have all been linked with the 18-year-old who is currently on loan at Cheltenham until 11th December. But the Blues boss has dismissed talk of the youngster leaving the Championship club and believes he has his heart set on becoming No.1 at St Andrew's. "I would be surprised if there wasn't interest, or his name wasn't mentioned at times," he told the Birmingham Mail. "This is an 18/19-year-old goalkeeper who is a real prospect, playing for England Under 21s. "But he is also a lad who very much showed his intentions some weeks ago by signing a long-term contract here. "We are delighted to have him, we're delighted to keep working on his development and all that Jack has on his mind is one day representing his club between the sticks and we very much look forward to that." Hughton is unsure as to whether Butland will extend his loan period at the Cheltenham, adding: "We need to assess that one. From our point of view, any development he has will benefit us. "Will he go out again? It depends on the circumstances and timing but our thoughts are all about his development." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7316609/? |
