Ridgewell At German Market

Let me set the record straight by saying I would have a problem with ANY Blues player doing this, I'm not picking on Ridgewell just because he's public enemy number 1 at our club right now.

But why do I have a problem with this?

Years ago I played for a team, and we really were a team. Every player was there early so we warmed up as a team. When it was an away game, unless you could argue to the manager that you lived nearer to where we were playing, you had to meet at the club and travel as a team. We always stayed behind afterwards for a drink as a team (unless someone had a life-or-death excuse) and away from matchdays, we did things as a team, days/nights out, fundraising etc.

I also was the player/manager of another team which mostly was like the one described above. But a certain point, it seemed less like a team and more like a bunch of blokes who show up, play, then go home.

Players started to get there just minutes before kick off, which not only meant they were ill-prepared but there was also no banter in the changing room beforehand. Afterwards, those same players would pay their money and go. Post match drinks were poorly attended.

Eventually, the lack of enthusiam of those players transmitted itself onto the pitch which meant our results got worse. This crushed enthusiasm generally and then players started to be absent with some pretty poor excuses which meant many games had to be called off. Soon after the team folded.

Now that won't happen at Blues obviously but to me (let's not forget I saw Ridgewell's body language and amount he was drinking) it just seems not right that whilst the rest of the players would be possibly still in the dressing room getting changed, or possibly having a post match drink with other players/management, that one player who is still part of the squad was simply doing his own thing, and it wasn't anything important.

The thing is it has all stemmed from one single point, him handing in a transfer request on deadline day.

Wrong. People would have quickly forgiven him for the transfer request, but for the fact that he's looked completely disinterested on the pitch and has had by far his worst season at the club.

Long may he continue frequenting the German market and various night clubs if it means he's not at St. Andrews. Murphy is by far our best left back.

This was your hobby.

This is his Job. He will turn up on time when required like you do for work.

The main difference between your team and his is they play together, might have a great team spirit but at the end of the day they're colleagues, whereas you were more than likely all best mates. He may just have not fancied going to the game, or left early because he knew he wouldn't be needed.

Either way the choice is his and he probably isn't on best terms with some individuals at the club seeing as he looks like his on his way out. So the atmosphere mustn't be great for him so no wonder he didn't want to hang around. Would you hang around when you know you're not wanted and they know you dont want to be there?

At the end of the day provided he gives his all when on the pitch, who cares.

TBH he is better in the pub than on the pitch at the moment!!!!!!!

No issue with him wanting to go........Not trying, well that is a different issue!

As we've been reminded about libel on stuff before I won't say anything other than some Blues fans at the German market seemed disappointed with his attitude there.

Most people have been disappointed with his attitude on the pitch this season - he's looked dreadful a division below where he looked decent.

I'd rather keep Murphy at LB anyways

As I said it stemmed from that, his performances on the pitch have backed it up that he really ain't too bothered. I agree mate, I was just saying that was the starting point, and everything he does now just adds to that opinion.

I have thought about this and have two theories.

1 He was at the German market because a Bundesliga team is in for him and so he was getting to know the culture

2 He was in the pub because the ESPN game was on and Swansea are in for him and so he was taking a look at them.

On the way home and couldn't help but notice 'want-away' defender of ours at one of the pubs in the market by Victoria Square.

Now how people spend their lives is up to them.

But this was about 5:30 and we'd just had a match that ended just over half an hour ago.

Even if he wants out, even if he doesn't care about the club any more, even if he was injured and not playing, I'm sorry, but on match day, his place should be with the squad and at whatever stadium we're playing at.

Pretty juvenile comment man.

If you don't mind my saying so. **thumbup

So why criticise him for using the ideal opportunity to shop /socialise - in peace..like at a Home game where he is not required to sit in the stands, player's lounge or make the tea.

My advice to all stalkers like, is use a bit of common sense, grow up and take a good look at yourself. Especially your motives, however much you try to camouflage them. :D

Frankly I'd rather see him at the German market than at St Andrews in his present mood. He's given good service and did well as a stop gap left back but I think it would be better for all concerned if he were moved on.

He has a life let him live it.. if he wants to go the pub thats his decision... so long as it does not affect his game i dont see what the issue is

Ridgewell is a model pro, got no p[roblem with him at all, also if he thinks there is a chance to better himself then he would be mad not to take it. Been a tremendous asset to the club. Bet he is desperate to play V Ashley Young again!!!

I have no problem with Ridgewell being in the pub after the game. Can't complain really. Beausejour was p*ssed up on international duty recently, I believe. Meh.

Murphy is having a stormer at the moment. In a game lacking any finesse and end product this evening, he put in an awesome ball right at the death to pick out Burke. Murphy is the way forward.

Ridgewell - thanks for your services but they are no longer required. Lets hope we can get a tasty transfer fee that doesn't end up in Hong Kong!
