lovely fella, met him in a jewellers in Solihull once and he was great, willing to chat and sign an autograph for my son - he didn't mind the intrusion on his time at all..

i do think it might have been good to have kept him here for another season but i guess it's too late for that now.. at this level he's still a good keeper and might prove invaluable for Leeds as they chase promotion.

I remember his breathtaking performance against Arsenal when they bombarded us for virtually the whole match but Maik T kept them out until about the eighty fifth minute when he let a weak from Van Persie (I think) slip through his fingers for the winner. It was crying shame because it blotted what was one of the most perfect displays of goalkeeping I've ever seen. He was almost as good against Man C when he earned us a point in a 0-0 draw at their place. Never heard him complain during his time at the club and always gave his best. All the best to him and his.

Why all the fuss? He's had his time and served us well, but his time was up.

He's only going to Leeds for a month.

Good luck to Maik.

Was a good sold Prem keeper - and a loyal and professional servant to BCFC.

Come on grumpy

whats wrong with mentioning such a loyal servent a super keeper and a top bloke.
Doyle I am afraid will never reach the consistency levels that Maik di for many seasons.

Very best of luck to a top man!

what's the point of Leeds signing him for a month?

might be a similar reason as to why we signed Wood for a month initially.. perhaps they've lost a keeper and not got sufficient back up just as we didn't.

Let's be realistic.

He had some good spells with us, but he was severely lacking in a number of departments that cost us goals and, ultimately, points on numerous occasions.

His kicking was some of the worst I've seen at Blues, his distribution was woeful and his speed off the line was something akin to watching a deep sea diver in lead boots. He also seemed to develop a fear of coming out to collect crosses.

As he aged, he became a liability.

He had some good spells with us, but it was more than time for him to move on and let someone much, much, much better than he ever was/will be take over in the form of Joe Hart and, afterwards, Ben Foster.

Good luck at Leeds, Maik, but I won't be shedding a tear that you didn't get the opportunity to stay with us.

Great servant for us was Maik, never moaned, just got on with his job.

Played some blinders over the years, rarely had what id call a 'shocker'.

Even when he kept goal for us that final season when he was a regular (our last promotion season), he gave his all, and helped us back up, playing his part immensely.

Then Joe Hart and Foster got bought in in successive seasons, and he found himself on the bench, and again, never complained or moaned, just got his head down and worked hard, even helping the development of Hart/Foster/Doyle/Butland.

The season we had Hart, Maik was guaranteed two games...obviously against Man City... in the home game, he came in and was top class I thought, which proved how professional and how good a keeper he was... by the time we played Man City away at the end of the season, he looked out of sorts and not the same keeper as before, and from then on, it was evident he would be leaving when his contract expired.

And perhaps he made one of his biggest contributions to Birmingham City Football Club during last season, when in goal for a Carling Cup game against lowly Brentford. Surefire win for the hosts, the Premier League side against a lower league outfit? Wrong.. Brentford turned up and were seconds away from beating us until a late Phillips equaliser.

Remember a couple of saves in that game that kept us in it from Taylor, and then it ended up going to a penalty shootout, in which Maik saved their fifth and final pen, and we went marching on.

Top professional, good player for us over many years, all the best for whatever he does, whether he sticks at Leeds for a month, 2 months, 6 months, or moves into coaching.
