Apparently we're interested in the 19 year old. Plays as a striker for Cliftonville in Northern Ireland and has scored 10 goals in 14 appearances this season.

What do people think/know about him?

I'd welcome more youth talent personally. Really enjoying our Club ethic at the moment!

every now and then you get a good player from these level leagues (e.g. kevin doyle, keith fahey) anyway, its not like we can afford to go signing more expensive players, why not?

Remember how amazing James O'Shea looked on YouTube prior to signing from the Irish leagues?

One appearance for us before being shipped out, now struggles to get a game for MK Dons.

At the end of the day the lad is 19. So it'll be a punt on his potential. He'll either make it or he won't but I would rather we were in for promising youth players than not because of perceived poor qualities of the leagues they originate from. In my opinion there is something much more satisfying about seeing talent bloom that has been nurtured than a club spending millions and millions on players near the end of their shelf lives. But that's my opinion, either way I hate seeing young players being signed and then being lambasted by fans when they don't show instant first team credentials. Some will make it, some won't, but I hope that if we do sign this Rory lad that people will give him a fair crack. KRO

There was a big difference between us signing Fahey and Jay O'Shea. We signed O'Shea because he was a promising young player, we bought him because he could potentially have been a first team player in a few years. We bought Fahey because he was the best player playing in the Irish league at that time, we beat off interest from Herta Berlin to sign him. We bought Fahey because we thought he was ready for the first team straight away which he proved he was.

Not all youngsters make it, if we sign Donnelly we would be taking a risk. He would not be going straight into the first team. He would be one for the future rather than going straight into the team.

imo theres no risk in signing this player, the worst that happens is that in a year or two he gets shipped off somewhere after not impressing (although i would like to think we would give him more time than that.)
but possibly we could be signing a quality signing, and for the money we would be paying its a lot less of a risk than some other players we 'could' be interested in
