Personally i'd go for this.....

Myhill

Murphy
Davies
Caldwell
Carr

Redmond
N'Daw
Elliot
Burke

Wood
King/ Rooney/ Zigic (There all as bad as each other atm) :D

This squad has alot more potential then people give credit for and i do believe with a change in midfield we can see the blues side that beat Nacional 3-0 and the team that scored 2 against Brugge in the second half etc. We have the potential to do very well this season and score alot more goals then recent seasons.

We HAVE to stop playing Spector in central midfield.

This is all. Hopefully Mutch is ready.

Yep most of the team is fine it's just our CM that's ruining us, it always looked like it would be our weak point at the start of the season, but Mutch and Gomis gave me hope, Spector and Fahey make me sad.

Keep Right On...

Our big problem seems to be the midfield, the ball just dies when it arrives there, me and a chap at work were discussing a way of injecting some creativity there, for the home game with Doncatser I'd like to see him try something like this...

Code:

                                  Myhill

Carr            Davies                      Caldwell            Murphy

Burke          N'Daw                       Beasejour         Redmond

                         King               Wood

Like the op team. Tho isn't Davies suspended? And I'd have Rooney with King up front.

He was only out for one match I think (Hull)

Anyone know if El Hadji Diouf will play for Donny ? he didn't feature against Southampton

Maybe he's away having spitting lessons :copno:

They've signed the old Newcastle player Diatta today ....he might not be eligible for Saturday (clearance)

I think Bridges and Pickering arrived on the scene a little later, lowds. What you seem yo have their is a miss mash of the 64 and 68 sides- although I confess my memories are growing a little uncertain.

The thing that was confusing me at first was your formation. It was 2-3-5 in those days and the team would have looked something like this:

Herriot

Martin
Green

Wylie
Foster
Beard

Bridges
Vincent
Pickering
Vowden
Hockey

Now, what if we were to pick that formation?

I think we'd get smashed, Blackie; after all most of 'em are in their eighties. (Still give Zigic a decent race, though)

That would have been the side around the start of 67/68 season.....Big Fred had joined us in the summer of 67 and Bridges and Bertie Murray joined us in 66

Formations weren't that common in those days although Sir Alf did play a 4-4-2 which were dubbed the wingless wonders when England won the WC in 66.....Sir Alf was one of the first to dispense of the traditional wingers who would always try and take the ball all the way to the byeline and create chances that way......Instead he moved Bobby Charlton, Peters and Ball back to attacking midfield areas and Nobby Stiles was used as an anchor

Those were the days of the wing halves and inside forwards who in essence were midfielders and Number 9 was always a big lumbering centre forward....it was known as the 'W' formation (or 2-3-5 as Blackie said although it could also have been a 3-4-3)

I'd go for

Myhill

Carr Caldwell Ibanez Murphy

Burke Gomis Fahey Beau

Rooney

Zigic

Best overall formation we have Zigic could try and i emphasise the word try, to provide flick ons for rooney. Fahey is not the best but N'daw seems to have no experience of championship football.

The line-up at the start of the 67-68 season was:

Herriott, Murray, Martin, Wylie, Sharples, Beard, Bridges, Vincent, Pickering, Vowden, Hockey.

Green shared the left back position with Martin.

Page (7), Sleeuwenhoek (12) and Foster (16) shared No 5.

Page also wore the No 10 shirt late in the season.

Herriott (40), Murray (40), Wylie (39), Beard (41), Bridges (42), Vincent (36), Pickering (42), and Vowden (40) were the regulars. Hockey made 30 appearances.

Anything else? :D

We need to be more attacking and creative than 442, we need to play through midfield and boss the game, we can not be out numbered in there again:

Carr.....................Davies..............Caldwell.............Murphy

..........................Fahey...............Spector

.....Burke.........................Beau.....................Redmond

..................................Wood

Subs:
Doyle
