I don't know if any one else has picked up on this but going into 2012 our away games become a lot more win-able!

Come jan 2012 we would of played:
Southampton, blackpool, cardiff, hull, crystal palace, middlesbourgh, reading.. That's 7 of the current top 11 teams in the league we have played away from home.... We will then have them to play at home where we have for many years been difficult to beat!

To be in or around the play offs come jan will be a massive achievment for the guys and our home form will be vital as well as playing the 'lesser' teams away from home where I'm sure a few more points will be picked up!

The only away games I feel it will be difficult to take anything from in the new year will be leicester, leeds and west ham! The rest are all games u would expect us to take points from!

Next year will be interesting! I for one feel we will suprise a few people! KRO

I had noticed that but in contrast our home games get more difficult. I know our home form is usually pretty good but we will need to start putting our chances away when we come up against the better teams at home.

We need to start converting more of our chances and come up with some 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0 results

Goal difference could be a vital factor come season end

Agree we need to start taking our chances but at least we arnt sat here saying we need to creat more.

A lot of the teams we have played at home this year have sat back and hit us on the counter! Hoping to nick a goal and then stick everyone behind the ball! The teams chasing promotion will attack us more given us more room for oppotunities! We made so many chances against a doncaster team who had basically had a back 6 then 4 in midfield!

Pfft since when has goal difference ever mattered

Swansea pipped Cardiff to third place just last season on GD....and they ended up winning the Play Offs

Preston pipped Cardiff to the 6th and final Play Off place in 2008/09 ....equal GD but had scored one more goal

Norwich pipped Burnley to 6th spot and the final Play Off Spot by a GD plus of just one.....you might recall they lost to us in the Final in 2002 **thumbup

I don't know if you remember the 1997/98 season under TF........Blues actually finished above Sheffield United by virtue of a much superior GD but back then they decided the final positions on goals scored.......As Sheffield Utd had scored 69 and we only scored 60 Sheff Utd finished 6th and we missed out on the Play Offs in 7th place

In the top flight Arsenal pipped Liverpool to the old 1st Div Title by virtue of more goals scored back in 1989.....and they even did it winning 2-0 away at Anfield on the last day :applause:

Back in the mid 60's Man United pipped newly promoted Leeds United to the top league Title on GD ....although they used the format of goal average back then

**thumbup

Do you want me to to carry on ???

Funnily enough looking back to our Play off Final over Norwich in 2002

There was a clamour to use the Golden Goal format which had been used in the 1998 Wolrd Cup in France and it meant the first team to score in extra time would win the game and the game would instantly end

There was talk about using it in the English Play off Finals and had it been in force Norwich would have been promoted instead of us as they had taken the lead in XT

Just saying like

Well just to correct you again , matey we went down in May finishing a point behind Wolves so it wasn't goal difference at all

Had we won at Tottenham on the final day or even had beaten Fulham at home the week before then yes, we would have stayed up

Wolves could also argue though that had they beaten us at SA when we only had ten man for most of the match then they would have still stayed up and sent us down

It's all academic now...... What is done is done and duly consigned to the past

I blame The Ginger One for miserably failing to get the best out of his players in the final third of the season and I also blame your hero Craig Gardner (the Blues badge kisser now frozen out at Sunderland :LMAO: ) for getting sent off for diving and generally being useless

Ane Yes, I'm being extremely sarcastic.....cause it's you

I think he means we essentially went down on Goal Difference, as we had to push for the winner at Spurs due to Wolves 2nd goal, meaning we were behind them on GD, as we wouldnt have lost 2-1 had Wolves not scored that 2nd.

But yeah, i know what you mean :)

It would be just typical we didnt make the playoffs on GD after the fact we aren't predicted to come anywhere close,

I agree with this actually.

Yes, the official league table will always say that we got relegated because we finished a point behind Wolves.....

....but we all know, especially those of us that were there that day, that in reality it was goal difference, more specifically goals SCORED that relegated us.

When Gardner equalised, we were safe on goal difference even though another rival, Wigan, had just taken the lead at Stoke.

It was only when Wolves made it 2-3 as opposed to 1-3 with 4 minutes left that we dipped back into the dropzone because although goal difference was now the same, Wolves had scored more than us.

The Tottenham winner only came about because of our desperation to score a late winner. Rather than the Tottenham winner relegating us, for me it just CONFIRMED it.

Ask the Wolves fans and even though they survived by a point, most will point at their 2nd goal as being the reason they stayed up. Without that, there may not have been a Tottenham winner.

So inclusion, goal difference is what relegated us last year, and goal difference could be very crucial again this time around.

You're missing the essential truth , guys

Because we pushed for a winner it didn't mean to say Spurs were incapable of going up the other end and scoring.....which they did

We lost 2-1 and thus finished a point behind Wolves and three behind Wigan and four behind Blackburn

At the end of the day we went down with Blackpool on 39 points ....and we really didn't have an excuse based on the last 12 games or so of the season

The table never lies

I would like to think the next time we get to the PL we can cosolidate to begin with and then look to finish top 8

I hope CH is still with us when the time comes

Our goal difference will be sh!te at the end of the season, we arent capable of dishing out a spanking even of 3-0, let alone 4 or 5.

I'll be prapared to eat my hat if we score 4 in a game this season. :ph43r:

There is a [boring] saying within the football profession..."take one game at a time."

I ain't got a clue who we will be playing, I just look for the next fixture (and have noted all the Sat fixtures and local away ones in my diary - that is for attending purposes.)

Just enjoy the moment, each game and the season in general. For me there is no pressure of a "must win" and more importantly the football has returned. We have had 4 years of dross so just enjoy.................it's great fun.

We won't go down and we won't go up. A play-off will be a bonus but let's wait and see.

Next season will be the push. Champions, hopefully.
