One of the safest games to go to nowadays. You get treated like cattle but you wont get to see a milwall fan even if you wanted too until you get inside the ground where you will only laugh at the council tramps giving it loads.

Like i said the police have made it the safest place to go too as you get your own seperate tube station & escort!

I just want to cheer on the boys in Royal Blue and hope we win.

Yes there will be singing, yes there will be banter but hopefully there will be no violent altercations. We're in the 21st century now - so let's behave like we are.

Should have gone there 20 odd years ago, then you my have been worried?

Spot on. Funny lot Millwall fans they get everywhere.. I remember going to watch Blues playing Leyton Orient many years ago and when we scored, Millwall fans invaded the pitch to try and get the game stopped. If we beat LO, which we did, then it affected Millwall's promotion (I think). Anyone else remember that? :applause:

Unfortunately as you are going with Holmsie you could be in a bit of trouble, I hear he likes a bit of a tear up and once he has a few bevvies in him he's like Danny Dyer

Good luck

Hey, I don't know who you are, or how you think you know me - but I'd appreciate if you didn't make such allegations about me.

Thank you and KRO.

I know what you're saying, but I've travelled away with the lad before and he's been alright. Certainly prone to offensive chants in the street and knocking over traffic cones and whatnot but mainly just out for a laugh. I just hope he has his wits about him on the walk from Peckham as it's probably not best to draw attention to ourselves.

During the 1926 General Strike, the East End dock workers supported either West Ham or Millwall.

To their credit, all the West Ham supporters came out on strike from all their companies and wharves.

Millwall supporters broke the strike and even tried to cross picket lines set up by West Ham supporters around key docks.

Which is a deep seated reason for the pure hatred between those clubs.

Millwall fans have something evil in their DNA. Whenever we used to go it reminded me of 'Deliverance'...all you needed was duelling banjos. :D

Maybe leave a Little early to avoid the after match Zulu vs Bushwacker trouble. Just stay near the police and sit in the Upper tier so you're further away from the Milwall fans. Enjoy it but maybe practice your punching. Lol.

Pompey and saints is the old Navy v Merchant background I think.

The history behind the Millwall / West Ham rivalry was in an article (I think it was FFT) about 6 months ago, believe it or not, trying to gain sympathy for the Millwall fans and their generations long 'seige' mentality.

It just got worse and worse after every paragraph :D

I'll see if it's online - but a lot of FFT isn't.

They've done an excellent piece about the 'Christmas Truce' in World War 1 - extremely well researched. In the December issue.

I'm an exiled bluenose and unfortuantely live about 10mins away from the new den.

I completely agree with those who say that millwall is one of the safest away games to go to (due to the massive police presence) - provided that you follow the route that the police allow. if you don't then you really are taking a chance.

The millwall fans still like a ruck but tend to take it elsewhere such as Peckham or lewisham.

There are a good few pubs on the walk up from peckham tho - especially in New Cross and New Cross Gate. One not to be missed is The Montague Arms which was voted londons best pub. I won't spoil the surprise but the best word i could use for the pub is.......surreal!!!

KRO and good luck!!!

Yes mate, I was there,we were behind the goal and when we scored they threw house bricks, wood and bottles into the crowd, hitting anyone in the way. Then on the way out we were escorted by the old bill and still managed to end up fighting with them.

That pub seems a bit too close to new cross & new cross gate stations for me. There will be lots of wall about coming in on trains from kent.

Hmm sounds like dev & holmsie are in for some hair raising moments, should be fun.

Now coming from peckham is far trickier especially if you don't know exactly where your going.

Trouble with that is that if you ask Dell Boy or Rodders for directions you'd have to buy some dodgy goods from them

And if you get lumbered with Trigg you'll end up at Selhurst Park

:o

Oh shut up you tart!

OP worried about going to football match these days? Following football these days is incredibly safe.

Forget all this rubbish about certain clubs reputations ; that's all they are; reputations from a different era. Every time we play Millwall, Leeds, West Ham etc you get a load of "is it safe to travel there" questions. The answer is: it's very safe these days. There is no football club in the UK that you should fear going to UNLESS you are going out of your way to search out trouble eg drinking in the oppositions pubs wearing all the gear will defo cause you some grief. Also wandering around areas TOO far away from the ground may get you into bother. Walking around with a certain element of our own supporters can lead to some hassle (you can find yourself involved by association). But 3/4 people walking from a parked car to a ground minding there own business are unlikely to find themselves involved, well at least I don't!

Maybe it's a age thing - the younger supporters in their late teens and early 20's seem to be the most worried about going to certain places. Me, being in my early 50's, started travelling to away games in the 1970's (been to the OLD Cold Blow Lane a few times), and I never worry about going to any ground these days, it's virtually 100% safe. I'm more worried having a drink in my local high street on a friday night!

Trouble finds Trouble. If you are not looking for it, you will rarely get caught up in it.
